If the current owners want more money thatn what should be paid for a non-running car, why not spend a few buck and get the fuel leak fixed? There may be more wrong if it only has a fuel leak, but they want to sell it without fixing it. Be wary, because buying something from a friend can sometimes bring problems, in the car and your relationship. If they are good friends, ask them if you can work on it a little, maybe fix the fuel leak, get it running, see if things go well from there. If you decide not to buy it, then agree to split the cost of repair and call it even, and your friend can sell it and take you out to a nice dinner for your help, and everyone can stay friends. It was previously owned by a priest, who only drove it to exorcisms and back. It was the most evil car I've ever owned. It soured me on Mercedes Benzes for many years. My loathing has only recently morphed into love, with my purchase of a '79 240D for $400., followed by an '80 240D in immaculate shape for $4800., both with 4 spd standard trannies. Soon after that I bought two more parts cars for $300. each. I have gobbled parts from the parts cars on more than a few occasions. But heck. Your mileage may vary.
