It's strange here... up the street SR9 & 180th, at Texaco, $1.75, I go over to another Texaco at 128th & I-5, $1.59. Weirder, I just went through Bothell on the Bothell-Everett Highway, passed a station in town $1.57 (at a half a tank, didn't stop), go two or three miles north, pass another Texaco $1.79!!! Go a few miles further north and there's a Shell at $1.59. of course $.43 of that is taxes... .23 washington state... .20 federal... My '83 300SD is actually running great, but the blower fan has to be fixed... had a heavy rain and had to crack the windows... ;) Thinking about it, I'm getting around 25 mpg in town driving a car that is larger than most of them out there... and it's as fast as a Full Size Jeep... amazing... impressive even... just wish that Rube Goldberg hadn't been hired to help design the climate and speed control and door lock systems... :) john - ------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Apr 2001 06:29:47 -0400 (EDT) From: Chris Straut Subject: Re: the benz lists It's not exactly a list, but www.mercedesshop.com has a very nice mercedes-benz forum (they call it the ShopForum there). Once there you will see any number of segregated lists for Benz, i.e. diesel, slk, 560sec, polite, rude, MBCA politics, etc. Dan ChicagoArea > At 05:51 PM 4/1/01 -0400, John Heflin wrote: > >Hey john, can you point me in the direction of the other benz lists (where > >to sign up)-(specifically im trying to find stuff on the 280SE and or the > >4.5 or better yet where I can get a shop manual for it ('69 for the body, > >'72 for the engine)? (how's that for condescension?) The 99 is fabulous. I get 30-34 mpg--but consider my aggressive driving style (80 mph to work in the am.) It's black like pretty much all the others I've seen. It's also WAY nicer than my trusty 90 Dodge W350TD. Funny you should mention buying the Mercedes when you're working on your Jeep. I bought mine when I finally got fed up with my Defender not starting. (Since then I've replaced the ignition system & it's fine.) Final notes: 1) Sorry for the annoying disclaimer at the end of my messages. The university tacks it on there without consulting me. 2) I only check mail a few times a week so I may not be responding superfast. Thanks for the welcome. After that the blower is fine it just needs some new brushes. To do this remove the blower and unscrew the rear cap. This exposes the "brushpack" flip it over and de-weld the old ones and re weld the new ones "soulder" I think. Anyway don't use brushes from hardware stores as they wear out the accumulator. Use only brushes from George Murphy at Performance Annalysis company. They are from Germany and are made of a soft material that won't wear it out. If you keep doing this the motor can last the lifetime of the car(1,000,000 miles). If you have an older one like 80 or older I think you can't unscrew the back cover and you have to hack saw it off and use some epoxy when you are done. While you are in the blower be sure to remove any stuff. A vacume cleaner and some Q tips works great. Also try and push some lithium gease into the bearing or just use synthetic Automatic transmisson fluid (ATF). Good info source on the oldies. - - for my '83 300TD, (and all others you may have,) Check out the Ritter/Easley list at http://hsb.baylor.edu/html/easley/mercedes/mercedes.html. They have rules to try to keep it clean for family viewing, which irritate some people, but there are volumes of good info, experience, and resources there. I like it. These are private lists, so your email address does not attract junkmail like the newsgroups do.
