The racor element has the water separator and is the 30 micron element... figure it'll help... Trying to charge the a/c up right now too... Added some oil and the special r134 boost stuff... I may just decide to have the system purged and converted back to r12... we'll see... I renewed the ad in the paper tonight... my wife just does not like this thing... :) john - ------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 May 2001 12:39:42 -0400 From: Mike Aimino Subject: 300 TD steering My recently acquired 300TD: I noticed that the bottom of the driver's side front tire appears to be sticking out when the car is viewed from the front, that is, the bottom tire is angled out away from the car. I also noticed that the front of the car shimmies when going straight at highway speed, but the shimmy stops when I turn the wheel. Is this a wheel bearing problem? Mike Aimino '81 300D '83 300TD ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 May 2001 10:07:49 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: another virus outbreak... there's a new virus outbreak... it's a recycle of joke and a few others, but also a NEW one with the title look at my home page... BEWARE, it is NOT a link, but a VBS script. If you're using any microsoft operating system, or outlook or internet explorer you are at risk. Deactive scripting might help. Also, while inconvenient, avoid keeping an address book in outlook, that's how these things propagate. :( Microsoft applications and operating systems are so filled with security holes it's like a piece of swiss cheese... :( I have some info on how to deal with problems like this at: http://wagoneers.com/UNIX/PC-info best bet is don't open attachments, don't send HTML/rtf or fancy email or attachments... send plain text and let folks know ahead of time that you're sending a file. Also, turn off scripting and VBS stuff. It's hard to tell people to avoid using Internet explorer and Outlook... Netscape and Eudora seem to be a little less likely to be infected... Linux and Pine or Elm is even better... ;) sorry for the off-topic post but as a listmom I see the error messages and end up helping so many folks deal with this stuff... I hope no one gets hit with this thing... be careful friends... The internet shouldn't be plauged with so many low-lifes... :( It used to be a pleasant place to exchange useful information... Btwn the spammers and the lowlife virus writers... oh well... I have to go and fix a computer now... john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** john-at-wagoneers.com via PINE on Linux **** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://junkscience.com ** http://snopes.com ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA ...don't leave life without Jesus, please... - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 May 2001 11:58:05 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: Re: swap On Thu, 10 May 2001, Nancy Edell Peter Walker wrote: >-->Gooday John; I am contemplating a diesel swap into my 4x4 and have been >-->looking at a VW TDI. Canada I don't know... but I'll forward this to the Diesel-Benz list for input. Adapters can be made pretty easy for such things... ;) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** john-at-wagoneers.com via PINE on Linux **** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://junkscience.com ** http://snopes.com ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA ...don't leave life without Jesus, please... - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 May 2001 12:36:50 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: the idea of the day... still waiting to hear how bad the offer will be from the other guy's insurance... in the meantime, have decided to sell the '83 300SD, diesel prices and bad fuel and too many vehicles being the main reasons. the '87 XJ I'm buying as a temporary rig doesn't have a/c and it has 272k on it. I'll gladly pass it along for exactly what I have in it... I may move some of the little wagoneer parts over to it... not sure yet. Neither the wife or I like the color or no a/c, so it's purely a temporary vehicle... I need something to haul my trailer with, the Benz will not be subjected to such use. ;) I just checked, there is no easy way to move the a/c from the little wag to the '87... most of the dash needs be removed... not worth the trouble... the little wagoneer ('88 xj) may provide the driveline for the '67 Panel, my son is protesting, but since it's mine he can protest all he wants. ;) (he was going to buy the panel from me... ;) I'll be selling the 4.10 axles off of the little wagoneer, the front bumper will be held until we replace the little wagoneer, probably after the 300SD sells... I think I'll lower the price on the benz to $4,500, which is about $700 under blue book... Beautiful car, but I'm trying to focus here... ;) SuperDawg is waiting for the concrete to fully cure and be sealed before he's slipped into the surgical bay and gets his heart transplant... I need to pick up an engine stand and get the engine out of the '96 along with the wiring... the '96 xj needs to go away soon. I'm really thankful for the longer days and nicer weather and concrete... I go out and work a couple hours every night... progress is slow, but it's still progress... :) well, gotta run. john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** john-at-wagoneers.com via PINE on Linux **** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://junkscience.com ** http://snopes.com ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA ...don't leave life without Jesus, please... - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 May 2001 11:39:16 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: insurance companies... the saga of the little wagoneer continues. state farm came up with a very similiar "fair market" value. Problem is the statistical basis on their value is severely flawed. They point to ONE vehicle similiar to mine sold in March. When I searched all the US I found more vehicles and a better pricing range. When I searched on Cherokees instead of wagoneers I also came up with a more realistic price. I also talked with a buddy that is a sales manager for a dealership, seems this racket is "common" now. He did point out that the insurance companies still use the NADA guide to determine value. the loan value is 2,200 the trade-in value is 2,400 and the retail is $3,775, and that does consider the mileage, but not the aftermarket add-ons. State farm is saying around $2,800. I looked at an '88 cherokee on a lot last night that had $3788 on the window... it was no where near as nice as mine... I believe that retail book is a fair price considering the condition and accessories. State Farm said they're going to hire an appraiser... anybody know an attorney in the everett area? ;) (a buddy recommended two, one is out for 8 weeks the other doesn't have a phone number in the book... ;) this really stinks... john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** john-at-wagoneers.com via PINE on Linux **** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://junkscience.com ** http://snopes.com ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA ...don't leave life without Jesus, please... - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #554 *********************************
