In the meantime I'm hoping to get the engine swapped in my J10. not enough hours in the day... :( shoot, I even missed Red Green tonight. :( I may end up selling the euro lights I just bought for my 300SD since I probably won't have time to install them and I'll probably drop the price a little since the front tires are worn... john - ------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 May 2001 07:47:25 -0400 From: "John Heflin" Subject: no power I seem to have made my problem worse... Last november by old battery was on its way out, I bought a new one, problem solved. About a month ago the battery kept dying, so I had the alternator tested, it was sending out 11 V so it was replaced. All was good for awhile but now I'm having to put the charger on it every night. I drove home from Baltimore last night and the headlights were so dim I could barely see where I was going. I had everything else off that I could turn off, and when I used the turn signal, it took a second for the headlights to get back up to thier previous level of (in)visibility... Is it possible that the belt is not tight enough to keep it charged? or did I get a bum alternator? Also one other thing that recently started acting up. When the car goes above 65mph, the temp gauge slowly rolls up to the "red" 250 degree mark. I dont remember it doing this before but I am not sure. What temperature should it normally be at? All this is on the 78 240D thanks, John _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 May 2001 09:31:10 -0700 From: john Subject: I can't believe it... got a call from an auction company, they expect to get the little wagoneer... here I thought the insurance company had reduced my buy-back amount because they didn't have to pay storage... seems that the gal I had been working with didn't do the paperwork, her assistant did... so I decided that it's not worth it to fight 'em or spend the $1045 to buy it back, the motor wasn't worth that much to me... no one seemed interested in the axles at anywhere near what I needed to recover... so I'm going to put the parts back on the little wag I removed and prep it for pickup... talked to my buddy who's working on the panel, we're going to use the T-5 from the J10 on the Panel and keep the 232. My son decided he wants to use it that way anyway, so everyone is happy. My son is happy, my wife is happy, the insurance company appears happy, the auction company... ;) I'm also going to have the swap on the J10 done while I'm gone to hawaii... it's worth it... I'm too busy to deal with it right now. :) so, I've got to go and reassemble the little wagoneer now... :) LW, the benz and the fairlane will sell soon and we'll actually be able to turn around in the driveway again. :) later, john - ------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #558 *********************************
