Slowly but surely I'm putting together a sound system. This is the first time I've ever done it this way. Kind of fun. In the past I lived with what came in the vehicle or went down to the wrecking yard and picked up the cleanest looking unit out of the bin... :) so far the system consists of: Sony XR-CA620X (am/fm/sw cassette) http://www.jackys.com/product/product.asp?prod_id=1583&qcatname=Car Audio&qcatid=35 Sony CDX-646 10cd changer http://www.xplodsony.com/products/?CATEGORY=Changers&MD=CDX-646 I already have a set of Pioneer surface mount three way speakers for behind the seats, they're "ok" and they'll fit... but the primary transducers are in the final selection stage. I thought I had it narrowed down to the Sony XS-HL635, but the guy I bought the CD changer from recommended the Pioneer below. And it's a little bit less... I've listened to the Sony's and they sound great, but looking at the specs I think the Pioneer's might be a little bit "cleaner", hard to say... any thoughts? Pioneer or Sony... pls cc me in response... So far the best prices are $99+9.50 for the Pioneer and $109.95 + 11.95 for the Sony systems... However, in this era of post-modern license with basic linguistic commodities, our view is only relative and if we say we know the truth, we will be labeled a hateful, narrow-minded, intolerant bigot. So a duck is only a duck when you embrace his world view, otherwise, it's just a bunch of funny looking parts. ==================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Jul 2001 22:01:43 -0700 From: john Subject: a special project... the Bus... (I still remember the Superhetrodyne tube radio I had to assemble in electronics class in High School. :) Sams Photofacts were great, used them to repair TVs in the '70's. I believe ITT bought them in the early 80's. I sold off all my tube testers, oscope and VTVMs years ago...) Anyway, he's looking for 12v type tubes and radios... john From: jmotohashi-at-amada.com (Jerry Motohashi) Cc: "john" Subject: 12V-Plate-Tube type Car Radio Hi Dan, My name is Jerry. John forwarded your email to me. I'm a tube radio enthusiast. I've been collecting tube radios since 1965. I also got many Sam's Photofacts lately. And I found an interesting car radio model, which is a Mopar Model 845, 846, it was installed on 1967 Dodge or DeSoto automobiles. The radio used "12V tubes", such as 12BL6(RF), 12AD6(Conv.), 12AF6(IF), 12AJ6(Det.), and 12K5(Amp.) These tubes requires only 12V DC for their plate voltages. However the outside looking of these tubes are same as regular 7-pin tubes, like 12BE6-12BA6-12AV6-35C5-35W4. I would image that same type of the car radios were installed on another automobiles in those days. On the other hand, the other type of 12V car radios existed in the '50's and early 60's. They used a vibrator generating AC voltage, and then by transformer and rectifier, supplied DC 150V - 250V to their regular tubes. I'm looking for first type of the 12V-Plate-Tube car radio. And if the radio doesn't work, I can fix it as long as all the parts there. Thanks for sending me information and finding radios.
