My A/C just died :-((( Just peachy. We're in our record 22nd consecutive day of 100 degree temperatures here in Austin, with more of them on tap this week, and the A/C on my 89 300CE (~127,000 miles) decided this morning that it didn't like Freon anymore. The pressure switch that cuts off the compressor when R-12 gets low is leaking, and even when the system was almost fully recharged, the compressor wouldn't kick in. Anybody know if a leaky pressure switch, with visible refrigerant oil on it, is likely to be dead enough to not be willing to fire up the compressor? I'm hoping that it's just that one part. System is now purposely empty of refrigerant. Can I just disconnect and unscrew the old switch, lube the new O-ring, screw on the new switch, reconnect the two wires, and then evacuate and recharge? Other than the leaky switch, the system is not exposed to atmosphere, so do I need to replace the receiver/drier or anything else? Assuming I'm on the right track, I will of course confirm that the system can hold a vacuum before I fill it back up. Hey Barry. You had once offered to help me with the A/C on my previous 85 300D (there's the diesel content). Can I still take you up on that offer? (please? Maybe within a week or so?) No ZJ's allowed on the WJ list, I think there are already resources for the ZJ elsewhere... (it's still a Jeep after all... ;) ok, I said 2, but I just remembered a third thing: the Liberty (KJ), it does have mercedes influence, the window controls are on the center console... other things have a Benz feel to them as well... now, if they'd put a Turbo Diesel in one I'd look at it again... once I got over the shock of how ugly it is... ;) let me know... john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** john-at-wagoneers.com via PINE on Linux ** (plain text please!) ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. ...and remember, leaving life without Jesus just isn't recommended... - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #604 *********************************
