Loved the story! The dairy farmers I know use molasses a rust remover; mix it in a drum with water and let it ferment for a month, then soak rusty car parts in it and they come out beautifully rust free. A lot less work than sand-blasting, if you the patient sort. I assume the fermentation product is acidic. It stinks to high heaven, and not much like gingerbread - the drum is always left to ferment well away from the house. I was fully expecting a catastrophic ending with foul smelling, highly-acidic, fermented molasses... I thought it smelled so good I wanted to eat it myself. Couldn't get enough blackstrap on my pancakes! We had a horse that would get loose and try to get into it. He also got the kitchen door open and ate bread or mashed potatos too, but that's a whole different non-Benz story. The 300D developed a clunk when I put it in reverse this week. Looked underneath and the front driveshaft flex disk is tight to the shaft but has some play with the trans flange. The back one looks new. Time to e-mail Rusty again. I put the car up on stepsons big lift. It's like the ones on Crank and Chrome that were discussed last month except permanantly bolted to the shop floor. It has 1.5" locks that toggle over into the uprighs' slots and keep them from falling. Still feel funny under it though. It was nice to see everything on the suspension and steering is nice and tight with no cracks or rot.
