(john-at-wagoneers.com) - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- QUESTION: what engine is in the '83 Ranger??? who makes it? http://wagoneers.com/tmp/DieselFord - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The guy that bought my '81 300D has an '83 Ford Ranger XL with a 2.2L Diesel and a 4 speed. He brought it over today and I test drove it. It rides nicer and is quieter than the '77 Cherokee I have been driving. My cherokee got 8 mpg on the last tank... I'm tuning it now, but realistically it'll do 13mpg in town... So I'm going to buy the Diesel Ford and sell my son the '77 Cherokee. The Cherokee is a nice rig, but I still miss SuperDawg. :) SuperDawg should get 15 to 16 mpg in town with the '96 XJ driveline (4.0L). The Ranger should get 22 or so in town, which will be fine. It's not a bad little rig... It'll save us a lot of money if fuel expense. :) Only has 111,000 miles or so on it. Quieter than the cherokee, goes down the road straight, shifts ok... rides decent... Anyway, I'm trying to figure out what engine this thing has and am basically putting out an all points for info. :) The guy has had it for years and it runs and sounds fine. It looks like a well setup Diesel engine. I like the fact it has dual batteries and good fuel filters. :) The pictures are at: http://wagoneers.com/tmp/DieselFord My son has to sell his '67 Ford Fairlane Club Coupe ASAP so he can buy my '77 Cherokee so I can buy the '83 Ranger... :) Pix of the Fairlane at: (will take new ones tomorrow for ebay) http://www.wagoneers.com/fotos/CARS/1967-Fairlane/ http://www.wagoneers.com/fotos/CARS/1967-Fairlane/67-fairlane-1.jpg I think we're going to put it up on ebay opening it at around $2,200, we'd like $2,500 for it right now. low miles on a new 289/C4, edelbrock 289 manifold, Holley 600 cfm, flowmaster, electronic ignition, straight body, some minor rust... runs great, handles well... email before tomorrow if you're interested in the Fairlane. I can't see any reason why you couldn't drive it across the country tomorrow morning. We're open to offers before we get it on ebay... It's a nice car, you won't find one this nice on the other side of the country for this price. :) Mark is also selling his '67 J3000 - he just said $500. I think it's worth at least twice that... http://www.wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/marks-67-J3000/ http://www.wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/father-son-00mar8-2.jpg The motor is solid, the body fair, (the door was replaced and has black primer on it now) and there is a problem with the transmission, but it's driveable... He thinks it could be driven to California... He's driven it to work several times without problems and I was driving it around here with the flood cleanup... It will need a transmission... IT has 30x9.5's on it right now... - --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 12 Jan 2002 23:35:56 -0800 From: john Subject: Re: diesel question At 12:35 AM 1/13/02 -0500, Clubsb-at-aol.com wrote: >A while back I read an article in I think jeep magazine or one of the 4wd >magazines about a jeep CJ7 with a MB diesel engine at time i was not into >diesels but now that I am that sounds of a sweet idea. That goes along with what I heard from some other Ford owners years ago. Although the Turbo Diesels used later were the Mitsubishi models. Either way it's nice and simple, low miles and should work nicely for a commuter until my J10 is restored. I may keep it, who knows...
