Does anyone know if the Mazda 2.2L Diesel from 1983 had a timing chain or belt? From everything I've been told, this is an awesome motor. Cast iron head and block, plenty of head bolts... now, if I"m told it has a timing chain it'll be wonderful... :) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** john-at-wagoneers.com via PINE on Linux ** (plain text please!) ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. ...and remember, leaving life without Jesus just isn't recommended... - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Jan 2002 15:18:57 US/Central From: acordova-at-texas.net Subject: Re: Diesel powered WJ? Looks to compare the Mercedes ML against the GC, both with the same MB 2.7 modern diesel motor, and both produced at the same manufacturing plant. Looks like the ML270 costs less than 5 per cent over the GC. Decisions, decisions... But you can try Jim Startup's in Everett, WA 425.353.6811 GP Automotive is also good, but more expensive. Then Benz Friends in Seattle, they're down by Boeing Field, have used as well as service dept. All three I've dealt with, all three have a good reputation in the area. Again, my 2.0 liter was a different animal but if Mazda used similar designs, mine had a belt. Not as good as a belt but I finally decided to change mine at 120,000 miles (I neglected it because I had to pull the engine to change it!) and it wasn't cracked or anything. Probably could have gone until 200,000 ;) I kinda had a contest going with myself to make it to 200,000 but the body didn't make it that far. It's still sitting in the driveway with 189,000 miles on it :( I'd go for it John! He decided to sell the Ford because he's got Fritz all dialed in. He put Euro lights on it, has the a/c working, he's getting fantastic mileage... in the thirties! One thing I learned is to check with him every now and then and see who he's recommending now. If someone starts doing shoddy work he finds someone else. I figured that out the hard way once. :) Kept going to a place he had recommended, when things weren't working out I checked with Jim to see if he'd had trouble there and he said, yeah, quit using that guy over a year ago. :) Thanx for letting me know, I'll pass this on to the list for folks up here in the Puget Sound. john - --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jan 2002 10:41:37 -0500 From: "Menefee, Dennis" Subject: RE: question... Howdy folks, A couple days ago my 240D failed to turn over upon hitting the starter. On an American car I'd immediately say to myself, hmmmm... the solenoid. Battery seems to have adequate voltage. I'm also suspicious of the ignition switch. Anybody have the drill on how to chase down the problem? Thanks!
