(have al lokk at the M 400 CDI too, it4s fascinating.. ;-> ). so far, i4ve had my e class for 62000km and there weren4t any problems with the engine or the transmission. just a great driving experience with this machine. (mine has got ~175hp). it4s unbelievable how quiet it works (not below of 1200rpm, then you can hear it4s a diesel) and what power it4s got. the e 280 station wagon of a friend of mine had several slightly problems to keep up with me on the autobahn.. ;)). akreft 2000 E 270 CDI T - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Feb 2002 00:14:13 -0800 From: john Subject: 84 300d I found a wrecked 300D, turbo diesel, 94k front end damage includes engine... not sure how bad... http://wagoneers.com/DieselBenz/84-300d.jpg what's this thing worth? from the looks of the picture a new water pump may be the only thing needed... can't see a sunroof... they shouldn't leave me near a computer connected to the internet without monitoring me... ;) The little '83 ford ranger diesel is doing quite well, but it sure would move out nicer with a Mercedes Turbo Diesel under the hood now wouldn't it? ;) john - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Feb 2002 16:46:41 +0100 From: "Andreas Kreft" Subject: Re: Fwd: Re: [WJ-Grand] 2.7 CRD Opinions (fwd) On 22 Feb 2002 at 19:35, john wrote: > > anyone familiar with the new 2.7TD from Benz? :) > > sounds like it's only available in Europe... :( i just read a test in the auto motor und sport (famous german car magazine) which compares the jeep grand cherokee 2,7CRD with the BMW X5 3.0d and the ML 270 CDI. it says that the 2,7CRD is much more noisy in comparison with the 270 CDI which has got exactly the same machine. the typical diesel sound would be much more penetrant than in the other SUVs.. strange, my E 270 CDI is as quiet as an E 280.. for the german ones out there: Mitsubishi Pajero 3.2 DI-D vs BMW X5 3.0d vs ML 270 CDI: http://www.auto.t- online.de/AU/DE/de/homepage.jhtml?navi_param=test_technik&news_newsart=auto tests&area_navigation=vergleichstests&report=bericht_31&repId=/AU/DE/de/content repositories/DE_de_comparisonTestReportRepositoryXML/XML/ComparisonTest38. xml sorry, this url is quite crazy.. this test has also got a nice fact sheet. akreft 2000 E 270 CDI T ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Feb 2002 15:25:51 -0800 From: john Subject: Diesels in Amerika > sure hope they start offering Diesels here... i wonder why they don4t offer them in america. these CDIs are great diesel engines, the most quiet and powerful on the german market. perhaps because most americans consider diesels slow and noisy? a year ago i went to my cousin who had an exchange student from south carolina and we drove al little bit around. he didn4t believe me that i had a diesel until i had to fill up some diesel.. :-> it's based on two things: 1) ignorance (the liberal eco-nutcases, mostly in california) 2) the problems we had with GM Diesels john ==================================================================== If it exhibits ambulatory and auditory characteristics consistent with current data on a small waterfowl with flat bill, short neck and webbed feet, it would be illogical to assume that it is anything other than a duck. Does anybody have experience with the fast glow kits from Bosch for Mercedes diesels? Here is one for sale on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1807394034&r=0&t=0 The guy on Ebay has the 4cyl kits and the later 5cyl version but not the early 5cyl, i.e. OM617.910 engines from 300D 1975-76. Of course that is exactly what I need, early 300D version. Of course I could just hack up one from a 4cyl kit plus spare plug etc, but nicer to get the correct kit. What think you all?
