I did this by driving the front end up on ramps. I strongly second Sam's steering-damper replacement recommendation! Replacing mine with the Boge OEM part cost about $20, 15 minutes, and made a huge difference. If your Benz has >100K mi, and you have no record of replacement on this part just do it if there is any steering play at all. I got it at walmart (Murphy). The pump said Yellow Grade. From what I've been able to find on the internet Yellow grade is higher and sulfer and not good for turbocharged car (mine is turbocharged). Is this true, myth? The price was about a quarter cheaper than I've seen at other filling stations in the area (Saint Petersburg, FL).
