All in one handy, inexpensive, replaceable unit with the regulator. So you replace the regulator and the brushes as one. Still a lot cheaper than replacing the alternator, and you get fresh control of all that hot juicy power coming out of your revived alternator. They are little rectangular pieces of carbon, like a longish square cross-section black eraser. They are called "brushes" because they brush against the armature of the alternator at it rotates inside. The armature is a solid-looking copper part of the inner spindle. There is some sort of spring to keep the brush pushed against the armature as the brush wears and shortens. >To: Thomas Martin-Tran , >From: acordova-at-texas.net >Subject: Re: Alternator brush unit >Date: Thu, 28 Mar 2002 10:13:58 US/Central >X-Mailer: Texas.Net Webmail (Endymion MailMan Standard Edition v3.0.12) >X-User: acordova >Sender: owner-diesel-benz-at-digest.net > >Yes, these are the electrical brushes used by the alternator. Should one try it only at the New Moon, maybe after sacrificing a virgin at sun-rise ? Or is there a simple way ? Concerning the fuel filters, I found three in my car: - - On in-line filter between the fuel pump and the line to the tank, - - One replaceable element filter in the line between the fuel pump and the injection pump - - Mounted on the front of the LH wheel-arch, what looks like a sedimentation filter (metal top and bottom, glass side) withtwo inlest and two outlets, one of each plugged, this last filter is not connected to anything. Should this be piped in in place of the in-line filter ?
