When I removed the Regulator I could start the car and the light didn't come on at all. As it is and was before it simply glows - in the daytime you really can't even tell the light is on. Do I need to take out the alternator and put in a new one or are there other things that it could be or other alternative to removing the alternator. Thanks for any advise, Tom M 82 300SD 74 VW Beetle ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Apr 2002 07:40:33 -0500 (EST) From: Richard Welty Subject: Re[2]: the last digest On Wed, 03 Apr 2002 03:27:34 -0800 john meister wrote: > On 4/3/02 2:38 AM, "Dan J." wrote: > > > At 09:19 AM 4/2/2002 -0800, John wrote: > >> 1) found out that where I'm at is around 2,000 feet, > >> top of the poconos mtns... :) looks like level ground to > me... :) > > > > Should we send you an O2 bottle? > > a case... and H20 as well... hey, you're in the poconos. need water, just go outside, face up, open your mouth, and enjoy the acid rain. if it's not raining right now, just wait 5 minutes... my parents tell me that when i was 5, and we took a trip to the Poconos (we lived in Philadelphia at the time), i also uttered those famous words "where are the mountains". cheers, richard - -- Richard Welty rwelty-at-suespammers.org Averill Park Networking rwelty-at-averillpark.net Unix, Linux, IP Network Engineering, Security rwelty-at-krusty-motorsports.com 518-573-7592 ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Apr 2002 12:44:07 -0400 From: Renaud OLGIATI Subject: Pre-heating plugs availability ? Ahhh, the beauty of the Internet ;) Jan Guthrie recommends Randy Steele at http://www.epsparts.com/ and I have had success with The Benz Bin at http://www.thebenzbin.com/ But be warned about Monarch brand glow plugs from The Benz Bin. I had EVERY one of them fail. Have had NO failures with Beru brand plugs. Ask for them by name and accept no substitutes ;) Jim/ '83 240d Renaud OLGIATI wrote: > I have been shopping round for pre-heating plugs for a W123, cannot get any > in any of the parts shops. > > Have they stopped making those, or is it only a local shortage ? > > TIA, > > Ron, on the banks of the Paraguay River. > -- > The doctrine of human equality reposes on this: > that there is no man really clever who has not found that he is stupid. > -- Gilbert K. Well, my digital camera is getting a workout ;) I'm trying to take the "easy way out" and ask the list rather than crawl back under the car and get all dirty ;) When I replaced the back end of the exhaust system last year I found that the mounting bracket that hangs the engine pipe to the transmission was missing it's bolts so it was just hanging by the pipe and not connected to the trans. Now that I'm replacing the rest of the system I want to put it back together the "right way" ;) Here is a pic of the exhaust system brackets that hang the system from the transmission. My question is: Is the transmission "threaded" so I just bolt the bracket on without a nut? I can't get a good look at the casting and it's covered with "diesel gook" (the technical term). So I'm hoping someone has replaced those bolts and knows if the casting is threaded or not. Like a fool I "assumed" that it was just a hole in the casting and I bought SAE bolts and nuts. Now I'm thinking I need metric bolts... Anybody have a manual that tells what size?? Like they say "Never ASSUME" ;) TIA!! Ask for them by name and accept no substitutes ;) Thanks for the adresses, but my question was: Are these still readily available "out there" in the rest of the world, or should one keep a stock and treasure it like gold-dust, 'cause there are no more being made ?
