Otherwise, almost any part you could possibly use should be available for at least several more years. I think MB had a policy of ensuring parts availability for 20 years after the end of production. W123s ended around 1985. For some items (often applies to trim pieces), you will have to order through an MB dealership. They can get parts from factory warehouses fairly promptly. In addition to epsparts and the benzbin, don't forget Rusty Cullens, "Rusty Cullens http://www.rusty.mbz.org The official parts vendor for www.mbz.org 1-800-741-5252" And finally, many mechanical parts for W123s were also used in other models (126, 124, even some 201s) after the end of 123 production, so the 20-year window, or whatever the modern D-C equivalent has become, would start counting later. I believe this specifically applies to the glow plugs that currently concern you. The correct glow plugs for your car may in fact still be used in new cars somewhere in the world. Oh, one more thing. I've had two W123s, an 80 240D and an 85 300D (glorious motor). I found pricing on many parts, especially through the vendors we have mentioned, to be MUCH cheaper than one might expect. Of course, there are a few parts that someone is particularly proud of (sunroof motors, for example), and they remain pricey, but they were always expensive. Parts pricing has not increased due to any lack of availabe supplies. An another "one more thing" while I'm at it. If the banks of the Paraguay River are in or near Paraguay, I have absolutely no idea how easy it may be to find parts locally. Many of us on this list (probably most of us) are in the US, so those are the third-party vendors we discuss. But the parts they sell come from around the world (mostly Germany, but I think the replacement headlight from Rusty for my 89 300CE was made in China), so there must be SOME way for you to get those parts. ;-) Happy Benzing, Alec Cordova Taylor, Texas 95 C280 89 300CE ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 04 Apr 2002 13:03:33 -0800 From: "Derickam AA" Subject: Parts is parts - NOT! Fellow listers I must say unconditionally the Randy Steele is the man for parts if you want the highest quality and ZERO mistakes. Been using Randy's service since 1998, not once have I received an incorrect part. I Detest incorrect parts I have to return, or receiving substandard parts chaffs my backside. I am on my second engine rebuild and will be doing a 3rd soon and Randy will be getting the parts order. These people get our wrath when they screw up, so they deserve a public attboy every once in a while. Bravo Randy! Ron, I sure second/(third?) Jim/Jan's recommendation of Randy Steele at European Parts Specialists (Santa Barbara, CA.) Randy is very knowledgeable and helps you get all the parts you need to do a job, which is really nice when buying parts mail-order. For what it's worth, check at the dealer when pricing parts. They sometimes you on price, and almost always on availability! (I just got two new trun signal lenses for my 67 230 for less than $10!) A station, by my house, has 2 different prices for fuel. The big trucks get it for .05 cheaper per gallon. The nozzle is larger but still fits the 300 SD. Is there a difference? Can damage occur by using it. The car seemed to run fine on it. My neighbor works at the station and told me both fuels come from the same supplier. The 'truck' fuel is the 'no-name' brand, the 'car' fuel is the 'Texa_ _' brand. I like 1.19 better than 1.24 per gallon. And with that much weight, you would most likely notice the reduced power available at lower engine speeds any time you try to pass or climb, to say nothing of what it would do to lower speed manuevers. But it's your car to do with as you please. I don't know the ratios, but perhaps the rear from a V8 W126 (500 or 560SEL) would be lower, and one would suspect that it would be a straightforward drop in replacement.
