John, The Ritter-Easley list encourages people to sell stuff there. They have a very large membership of Benz lovers. Check them out at http://business.baylor.edu/Richard_Easley/mercedes/mercedes.html Gerry Visel >From: john >Subject: other options for selling on line? > >what on line options do we have to sell things other then ebay? >ebay is starting to get a bit arrogant... :) > >john ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 May 2002 11:59:18 -0700 (PDT) From: hue wong Subject: 280 sel power train question Ho all, Just stumbled across the list and am hoping someone can give me some advice. I have a '71 280 SEL that I'm tinkering with. I just had the motor reworked and it's running fine, except now I hear a slight grinding noise coming from the rear as I speed down the road. It comes and goes at about 40mph-45 mph and doesn't seem to be the brakes, as I keep hearing it after I apply the brakes. It comes and goes as I can't always get it to reproduce at 40, I'd say 30% of the time it's there and it's seem to be getting a bit louder... The grinding it's self is a slight grind...grind... grind.. grind type of noise that seems to be a bit slower then what I think the wheels are turning which leads me to believe its the drive line or some close part. (I had hoped it was wheel berings but checked that out and all was well) I also notice that there seems to be a bit of a leak at the back center axle differental box(???), it's all covered with oils, which can't be good. I fear this grinding is in the rear transaxles. Does anyone know if this is comon? Could it be the clutch? Any idea as to what it might take and cost to fix if it. I plan on swinging by Benz Friends here in seattle, but can't seem to get anyone on the phone to schedual and appointment! I'm new at all this benz rebuilding stuff so I'm shooting in the dark. Can anyone give me any clues? Thanx in advance. - -hue- P.S. Is 15ish MPG about right for this aminal! It sure has lots of power, but lord I can almost see the gas gauge drop when I tool around in it! Although not quite as friendly as this list, it gets more traffic, and it's not centered around diesel Benzes. Don't know about your noise. I don't think there are any primary clutch parts back there. Your gas mileage is about normal, especially if you have been in it enough to know that there is definitely some power under the hood. ;-) Good luck, and welcome aboard, Alec Cordova Taylor, Texas 95 C280, probably going away today 89 300CE, gonna stay with me till I run out of oil money ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 May 2002 09:23:35 -0400 From: "Bill" Subject: Re: Thinking about a diesel bens Anyone know any good shops in new england? - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Richard Welty" To: Sent: Sunday, May 05, 2002 9:21 AM Subject: Re: Thinking about a diesel bens > On Sat, 4 May 2002 23:38:59 -0700 Bill Gannon wrote: > > I am considering purchasing an older diesel mercedes.
