It's just like the 123 system. I'm not sure which type you guys are discussing, but I thought I'd throw that in the mix... Just a quick FYI. ;) Mike 79 300SD--249,000 miles and counting!.... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 05 Jun 2002 21:45:18 -0700 From: john Subject: Diesel Dreamin' - episode #2.2-5.9 Driving to work in the '83 Ranger with that little Mazda 2.2L I decided to swing by and look at an '86 Cherokee... that of course got the gears turning... haven't called on the XJ yet... it had the 2.8 V6. Which has me wondering if the Mazda 2.2L Diesel would somehow bolt up to the Torqueflite 904 or 999 that's in the 86 Cherokee Laredo (Selectrac NP229)... Since Jeep made a Diesel XJ from '85 to '87 I wouldn't have trouble getting it licensed and smogged... and the 2.2L would do ok pushing the XJ, especially if I could fit a turbo on it. :) Hmmm... but before I could even voice this idea, my son confronts me with a trade for his '67 Fairlane (on ebay right now)... I just drove the Fairlane up to get gas... it is fast... but it has a number of unresolved issues... one of which is the need to complete the exhaust system... it is faster then it is loud, but I smell of Holley byproducts now... ;) I'm not sure I can afford to drive it to work until it sells... Shoot, between the gas and the rear tires... ;) anyway, while up at the Texaco pumping some go juice in the fairlane the guy on the other side of the pump had a Dodge Cummins TD same color as my neighbor's... he sings nothing but praise about it... So, do I bust knuckles to build a daily driver Diesel, wait for SuperDawg (16mpg?), or buy my neighbor's Dodge and hope my wife likes it so she'll part with the '99 WJ and I'll drive SuperDawg but not feel guilty about fuel economy because I can drive the Dodge every now and then and have both trucks and my Diesel... the saga continues... dreamin' went from 2.2L's this morning to 5.9L at nightfall... if only I had money... :) (of course if I did then it wouldn't be any fun, now would it? It's more fun to dream, design and acquire parts... ;) john - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 06 Jun 2002 06:38:36 -0400 From: Michael Frank Subject: Diesels I'm looking for something to replace my 300CD. Not too surprised at the lack of choices. It's starting to get hard to find low mileage 123's. I've been thinking about a newer Merc or a VW TDI. Any experience out there?
