I've been quiet for awhile now, so let me catch you all up to speed with my situation... started with a 1978 240D- in the family since new and still running good, turned over 200K last tuesday (kinda like a birthday for it? haha). November of '99 bought a 1969 280SE with a '72 SEL's 4.5 motor sitting in it (literally). its basically been a driveway ornament as I havent had the time to sort out and label the wiring harnesses to put the 4.5 in it... Most recently I came across an '82 380SEL for a steal of a price and couldnt leave it. 184K, but the body has NO rust and the interior is just shy of being totally perfect. Anyways, I had no intentions of getting away from staying with diesels (since it's outnumbered 2 to 1 now) and since john brought up frankenstein transplants again, it's been running through my mind about putting the Turbo 300D motor into the 280SE (W108). Anyone? Ideas? thoughts? ....will it work? ;) John Heflin >From: john >To: "Vernon Tuck" >CC: diesel-benz-at-digest.net, "Machinedoc-attbi.com" >Subject: Re: Benz swaps >Date: Thu, 20 Jun 2002 10:16:18 -0700 > >At 11:34 AM 6/20/2002 -0500, Vernon Tuck wrote: >>John baby,, >>Long time no talkie... >>If you want to do a diesel conversion to a 280Z LISTEN UP!!! >>Look at the LD28 engine as used in the early 80s Maximas. Dear 'Benzers' Recently its been hot here in Europe (in the 90's) and on a 60 - 70mph run my temp guage is way over the half way mark. When I slow down or sit in idling traffic it cools back to just under half-way mark. Also the engine oil seems very hot when I pull the dipstick. It doesn't have the electric cooling fan just a big thing bolted to the water pump. Any ideas?
