I have read somewhere on the net that the fixed fan takes some 8 hp to operate it at 4000 rpm. So if you remove it you'll have 8 hp more for moving the car. I have done this conversation this year and was quite impressed. The fuel economy increased by a little under 10% and the car (it is a 200D) is much happier not having to waste its power for the fan. The electrical fan comes on very few times so I guess a fixed fan really is a waste of energy. The next thing you might try is to remove the oil bath air filter and replace it by the newer ones. This might give you another 2 hp or so. Th completely change the engine to the 72 hp version is a lot of work an simply not worth it. it is way easier to change the complete enginge than trying to modify the existing one.
