In the passenger footwell. I think it was a couple of screws under those snap on covers, plus one plastic clip at the tranny tunnel that looks like a big plastic screw but just needs a 90 degree turn, then remove the knee panel on the passenger side. The blower motor is down there, held in place by 3 or 4 screws and an electrical connection plug. It then drops right out. Wonderful no-brainer. Since access is SOOOO much easier than on, for example, a certain 89 W124 300CE coupe, if your blower motor is acting up, it's worthwhile to try to get some more life out of it by replacing the brushes (20 bucks ish from George Murphy) and dropping a little ATF on the bearings. If you only get a little life back from it, it's no big loss to have to go in there again to put a replacement motor in. On the W124, the blower motor is accessed from outside after removing the single wiper assembly and breaking at least two of the numerous other plastic pieces that must be moved or removed to access the motor. I'd rather not do that again and break even more plastic, so I'm glad I bought a new blower motor for my coupe, even though the replacement brush trick had my 85 300D's blower working perfectly for the remaining year that I owned it. > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-diesel-benz-at-digest.net > [mailto:owner-diesel-benz-at-digest.net]On Behalf Of drefan-at-cox.net > Sent: Monday, February 17, 2003 6:59 PM > To: diesel-benz-at-digest.net > Subject: Blower Motor > > > Where is the Blower Motor located on a 1980 240D ? > I have some suspicions, (under the battery area) > Can someone conform this? I think I remember seeing them in the Performance Products catalogs. Others will certainly sell it, but if you have one of the catalogs, you can easily see which particular 3M product. OK, I have a Performance Products catalog handy. What's it say? "3M Super Trim Adhesive Designed for heavy weight headliners and hood pads where high strebgth and heat resistance are needed. It has immediate bonding strength and is repositionable during assembly. One can per hood pad." Performance Products part number 830016, $17.50 each. The picture shows a can with 3M number 08090. I don't see a cleaner, but wherever you can find the adhesive, they should be able to suggest a prep cleaner. I agree that the first step to taming the sound is the hood pad. That alone may be enough of an improvement. Alec Cordova Taylor, Texas 89 300CE, 153K, original hood pad still well recognizable as a hood pad, rather than as a crumb maker. > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-diesel-benz-at-digest.net > [mailto:owner-diesel-benz-at-digest.net]On Behalf Of Robert Chase > Sent: Monday, February 17, 2003 7:58 PM > To: drefan-at-cox.net > Cc: diesel-benz-at-digest.net > Subject: Re: sound shield > > > I am considering one as well after I install a new hood pad on my > 300sd.
