The Tachometer amplifier located in the engine compartment works its way loose over the years. if one unscrews the cap and removes the amplifier from the top of the cap and places a piece of cardboard inside the cap when you screw it down it will make contact again. Dealers tend to want to rip off consumers and not notice issues with a vehicle (which technically they are supposed to refurbish before sale). The color on that car is less than highly desirable as well. Gas 190's are a dime a dozen honestly and personally I find the 300SD's a much better bargain. > > Does anyone know if they salt the roads in SLC? > > -Gary, Orlando > 1986 MB 190D 2.5 > > > > > On Wed, 2003-02-26 at 22:25, john wrote: >> 22 bids and reserve not met... The Cabrio is exactly what I would want in a car. Small Fun and economical. The only issues I would have is service and repair. I would want to know the local MB dealer could do service on it BEFORE plunking 16k down on a new car. As for safety the car comes with a saftey cage (notice the black or silver sections of the body). Its a bit on the small side but it looks like it would be rather safe in comparison to other cars of its size class. Also keep in mind the smaller and lighter your car the less momentum you have going into a crash. The killer parts of the crash are the inertia ripping loose a very delicate portion of your heart causing you to bleed profusely inside or being crushed to death. In a lot of ways the car crash tests are kind of difficult to compare because a smaller lighter car has less inertia and does less damage to itself when it hits a solid object. Run into someting big like soccer mom in her deadly SUV and your going to either be in a plastic bag with a zipper or looking up at a bunch of people with scrubs on as they try to save your life .... They are kind of "FUN" as well.. The interchangable body panels and convertible top make this car FUN. And Economical as well.... Getting a lot of door dings? Switch panels.... Your color not selling well? Switch the panels ... Its like getting a full body work job and paint all at the same time while you wait ... I doubt that the car will ever catch on here... Probably why MB wont import them.... But if they dont it means one thing... A car that turns heads everywhere you go..... R. The asking price was $4900, that's probably the reserve. By the time you add in shipping to the East Coast, it was 'way to expensive for what it is. That said, I paid over $5k for my '87 at a local dealer. But...the dealer will be putting the car into tip top shape, including repainting some weathered panels.
