Hey. Can anyone tell me what kind of "linkage" there is on a benz rear wheel. Specificaly, I have a medium, intermitent grinding noise that comes and goes about 40mph. I suspect a wheel bering, or a bad brake shoe (The grinding doesn't happen when I break, just when I go down the road) or egads, my worse case senario, a bad clutch/transaxle type senario. Zoiks! But the big delema, I'm not sure what type a system is back there. Does anyone know how a '71 280sel rears are laid out? Could it be as simple as a bering and what do berings cost these days? In short, I wouldn't advise doing this. A while back, it was very popular among VW Bug/Ghia fans to put a Judsen supercharger on their non-supercharged VW engine. It was good for some thrills for a few thousand miles, but ultimately the engines got trashed. On 1 Mar 03, at 11:02, JC Jones wrote: > Has anybody added a turbo to a non-turbo 300D? A bearing noise would not likely only appear at certain speeds. I recently diagnosed a bad right-front wheel bearing by a noise that increased with road speed, as opposed to engine speed. The side was diagnosed by the fact that it was a bit louder cornering left than right, shifting the weight more to the RF wheel. Greg At 10:05 PM 2/28/03 , hue wong wrote: >Hey. Too bad about >the Amsoil filter not fitting the 201....does K&N have anything? I wouldn't run a K&N on my lawnmower... or anything even if I didn't care about it. They don't filter very well, they're a total pain to clean and they cost twice what an AMSOIL filter costs. An amsoil filter usually runs 2 to 3x's the paper version, unless it's a Mercedes, in which case the AMSOIL Filters are often LESS EXPENSIVE then even a cheap aftermarket one for a Benz... Case in point, my '74 450SEL got an amsoil filter for about $7 less then the cheapest cheap filter at schucks! I couldn't believe it. :) The 2.2L Diesel takes a planar style filter, I'll get the dimensions, might be able to use a Jeep XJ 4.0L type, we'll see... it looks about the same size. :) I'll run a paper element before I'd ever put a K&N into any of my vehicles. The one or two times I've had a vehicle with a K&N the first thing I did was wrap the AMSOIL material around it so I could clean it easier and actually have stuff filtered. :) K&N has a great marketing and distribution system, and the construction quality of their product is fine. It's just that oil-wetted cotton gauze bunches up, can't be cleaned easily, loads up and prevents airflow rather easily and is just way too expensive... >Just six days until I get my car! three more days before I have mine working again... ;) john >Mike Frank > >At 02:13 PM 3/1/03, john wrote: >>I can't wait to get mine working again... ;) >> >>It's a nice little car...
