Got my eye on a nice little 240D for 2100.00 to play with and figure I can spend one saturday a month brewing up a batch of fuel for the month. I've already scouted out the local fastfood resturants and a few even told me they would actually pay me to take away thier old oil!!! I'm figuring after startup costs (only a few hundred) I can make the fuel for about $0.50-$0.80 a gallon! I can brew my own diesel for about $.65 a gallon. If I get real ambitious, I can refine the leftover glycerine and sell it - even less per gallon. The reactions I get from the local restaurants are, basically, "take all you want." I've collected 225 gallons of oil in a few hours. A few hours work (albeit with some strong chemical), and I can fuel my car for a fraction of the pump price. In fact, biodiesel outperforms regular diesel - it has a higher cetane number (it's a super premium diesel), better lubricating qualities for the injector pump and injectors, and less soot. It's a denser fuel, so you get better mileage and more power - all dyno-tested facts. - -----Original Message----- From: hue wong [mailto:wong_hue-at-yahoo.com] Sent: Thursday, March 06, 2003 3:10 PM To: diesel-benz-at-digest.net Subject: Retail Gasoline Prices to Set Record High O.K. Just for reference, my 89 300CE has a driver's airbag, but no passenger airbag. I have indications of airbag presence in a sticker on the driver's door jamb, on the steering wheel itself (steering wheel cover has "SRS" embossed in it), and I think on the VIN plaque visible through the windshield. I also have an SRS yellow warning light among the dash lights. Those would be places to look on your 190D, especially the VIN plaque and the dash lights. If you're using a 55 gallon drum, you can use a propane heater (insert appropriate warnings about open flames and cooking oil). You can use a water heater element from a scrapped water heater (seems to be the most popular method). You can buy a drum heater from a place like Grainger's. The glycerine can be burned in a waste oil heater (which you can also build yourself and use to heat your garage or to heat your waste oil) or refined and sold. - -----Original Message----- From: Michael Frank [mailto:mfrank-at-westnet.com] Sent: Thursday, March 06, 2003 3:16 PM To: diesel-benz-at-digest.net Subject: Re: Retail Gasoline Prices to Set Record High There are only a couple of questions that I have: 1) The fuel has to be warmed while it's brewing...what do you use to warm it? 2) What are you going to do with all that glycerine?
