Absolutely. I would not mind parting out a w126 at all. There are hundreds of cars out there that are completely ruined. Who wants a gas short body w-126 anymore? Its not worth putting an engine in one because of the low resale value and the outrageous prices asked for the parts. Parting out one would allow me to have a "spare" w-126 waiting for any part I might need. The same is true for bad wrecks. Older Volvos used the Laycock electric O/D. It gave about a 20% reduction in RPMs. You would have to pull one out of an old Jaguar, Volvo or Healey...and you'd also have to pull out the transmission it's bolted up to. Take it from someone who's done more work on British trannys than he cares to remember. Change your rear axle ratio or do nothing. But don't go to a British gearbox. There are O/D units made for Jeeps, but probably too bulky to get into a Benz. Those engines will be great for 2 wd cars/small trucks. I would like one to replace the /6 in my half ton stepside. Maybe I'll wait for the 4 door pick up coming out in the fall. Greetings, Just got around to reading my March 10th Autoweek and ran across something to share with other Diesel lovers! It was a short article on an inexpensive turbo diesel powered 4x4 that looks similar to a certain British 4x4. The vehicles name is "Cross Lander", sort of sounds similar to a British vehicle as well. I have included a couple links below, I am unfamiliar with the Romanian ARO that it is based on, will look into it when I get a chance. I am not sure what the final body styling will be as I have seen different pictures of it. The article from Autoweek in the magazine had one picture, the online version had another and the web site has similar variations!
