Replace the bypass hoses. That's probably all it is. A bad leak can cause a rough idle. I guess you've conquered the ignition lock problem. Did I miss the "blow by blow" report?? > Buying a car that's been sitting for a while might not be > a good idea... ;) Both of the MB's I've bought this last 5 years have been driveway queens. The first year or so shook out all the cobwebs. The dollars required to bring them up to snuff have been minor except for the transmission on this SD.....DON'T get me started. After that, you've got a pretty reliable daily driver. "Bruno's" current compaints center around a climate control system that wants to take too many coffee breaks and a passenger side front door window that screaches when called into action (today's sudden surprise...) I'd much rather be driving my mundane 240D, but I sure would miss the power and quiet ride... After that, you've > got a pretty reliable daily driver. My SD spent about several years in a parking deck and then a couple years outside. The dealer that bought it did some minor stuff to get it running and was going to restore it for himself before running into money issues because of the used car market (at least he claimed this). To date I have spent about $600 on tires (dryrotted) and about $340 for all my fluids to be changed and a repair to allow my engine to shut down without opening the hood. I have changed a few seals and lubricated some stuff but everything has been rather minor other than the clean up...... Regardless if its been sitting or driving these cars are hitting the 20 year mark rather quickly. Rubber and other materials break down over time. It does not matter if the car has been sprinting down the highway at 70mph all this time or sitting around the simple age will cause rubber to disintegrate in the right atmospheric conditions. > > "Bruno's" current compaints center around a climate control system that > wants to take too many coffee breaks and a passenger side front door > window that screaches when called into action (today's sudden > surprise...) > > I'd much rather be driving my mundane 240D, but I sure would miss the > power and quiet ride... > > Jon > '84 300SD ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Mar 2003 11:36:55 -0500 From: "Jim Hoffman" Subject: Re: trip to BC John, I would be "interested" in knowing what kind of condition that 300CD is in.
