Finally... got the 190D back together. Still need to fix the fuel sender/gauge, seat and dash lights, but after almost two weeks of inoperability, it's functional... Just got back from a run to the store for some Haagen-Dazs. ;) It all started when I attempted to clean the connectors on the instrument cluster... the ignition switch chose that very moment to have a seizure... Around $625 later, the ignition key is working, half the dash lights are out, but it was working... took it into town and smelled Diesel... opened the hood and had a Diesel geyser coming out of #4.. Ok, figured the injector clogged and the fuel had to go somewhere... went down to Phil Smart on Saturday and all they had was one injector... ordered all of them and waited... until today... UPS came, installed all the new injectors... Fired it up and I still had a Diesel geyser on #4. Ok, figured the injector line is bad... called Phil Smart, none in stock... Friday... called the more expensive Benz dealer on the East Side (the ones with an attitude, hey, they are on the EAST side you know... ;) Anyway, ran down there and picked it up, cost a few dollars more, but they had it... ran home, installed it. And voila... we capped the geyser. So I changed the filters... all is working... Oh, the reason the injector line failed is the clamp had lost it's bolt and the clamp bracket was bouncing around on the line, I'm sure that's what killed it. Problem is I dropped the clamp and it fell down in the motor and I can't find... hopefully it'll be fine... :) Tomorrow I get to work on my son's '89 Cherokee... he sold his ranger on ebay today... Diesel dropped from 2.059 to 1.975 hmmm.... that's good news, I guess... later, john - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Mar 2003 22:26:33 -0800 From: john Subject: bad injector line easy to troubleshoot this problem... :) http://wagoneers.com/DieselBenz/190D/geyser-4.jpg bad injector line on my '85 190D 2.2L - that's Diesel spraying up in the air... fixed it... ;) john - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Mar 2003 02:07:05 -0500 From: Robert Chase Subject: Re: Ludwig lives! Hmmmm, Whell... At least your basement did not flood. Mine did. Got to see for the first time what an S class Mercedes benz traveling at 60mph does to a flooded road (on our way to the 24/7 Walmart for a basement pump). The water was nice enough to move out of our way. When I hit the puddle I thought for certain I was going to have more problems than a flooded basement . Quite impressive actually. If you put a snorkle on that Diesel engine, you could drive to the store even when the car starts to float (oops), probably better not go that deep. Actually, I have some family in East Africa, and I've been thinking that a 300SD would be a great car there. The suspension is great on my W116, and it has really good ground clearance for a sedan. If you put some oversized tires on and maybe some kind of lift kit, you could travel quite well during the dry season to anywhere in the country....put a snorkel on it, and you could even make it through some small rivers....do they make locking diffs for these cars? ;) Scott - -----Original Message----- From: Robert Chase [mailto:beostar-at-sdf.lonestar.org] Sent: Wednesday, March 19, 2003 11:23 PM To: john Cc: diesel-benz-at-digest.net Subject: Re: Ludwig lives! I ran into one up here for sale for a good deal, little light quarter panel damage, interior a bit used, but it's a NA 4 banger auto, which doesn't seem all that zippy to me.
