And don't even get me > started on the possibilities of welding my truck to my tractor... *** Maybe you could convert it to negative ground. I did this to my TR2 and MGA. It was unbelievably simple: 1. Swap the wires on the battery 2. Swap the wires on the ignition coil 3. Repolarize the generator by zapping the field terminal. ( On the TR2, I had to also swap the wires to the ammeter. The MGA has no ammeter, so no problem ) Such things are much harder on modern cars with semiconductors and alternators. I doubt that your tractor has either of those things. Is it a Ferguson? Maybe it has the same engine as my TR2..... - Jerry Kaidor ( jerry-at-tr2.com ) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Mar 2003 20:55:25 -0500 (EST) From: Richard Welty Subject: Re[2]: Used cars On Thu, 27 Mar 2003 20:42:06 -0500 Jim Steere wrote: > If you go back to the original Gaelic, "Lucas" translates to "Don't > drive it > after dark". > > "Lucas....Prince of Darkness" to put this back in a german car context: i once heard an ugly rumor that Bosch is the german word for Lucas richard - -- Richard Welty rwelty-at-suespammers.org Averill Park Networking rwelty-at-averillpark.net Unix, Linux, IP Network Engineering, Security rwelty-at-krusty-motorsports.com 518-573-7592 ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Mar 2003 18:01:52 -0800 From: "Paul Schwartz" Subject: What is it? I just finished poking around trying to stop the vee belt squeal in my 240D. It turns out the guy who replaced the alternator didn't understand how that cogged nut was used to adjust the belt; a little loosening of bolts, retightening and presto, no squeal. Oh, whom ever replaced the AC idler pulley rotated it the wrong way and the belt was hitting the vacuum pump. Rotate it clockwise and there is no clearance problem. Mechanics, who certifies these guys? BTW--on the top of the thermostat housing is some kind of sensor and the wire fell off (broke). What is this sensor, is it the temperature sensor?
