This doesn't seem like a bad thing... if the fuel they provide provides pump lubricity then it shouldn't be a problem to implement. Doesn't look like they're forcing retrofit of pollution control on existing systems, did it? I have a lot of allergies and such and reducing emissions and stuff like this helps. The burn bans we have out here in Western Washington during thermal inversions has helped a great deal. I know a lot of folks don't like it since they heat with wood, but the air quality is so much improved that they removed the requirement for that funky gasoline they use in some areas to reduce emissions during the winter! We seem to be doing a lot better on designing emission controls into vehicles these days, as opposed to the early '70's. I still question the effectiveness and the detrimental effects of an EGR valve on a Diesel. In my opinion that's just asking for early engine wear, typically clogs up anyway and quits working... john - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Apr 2003 15:01:32 -0400 From: Michael Frank Subject: Re: EPA Proposes Curbing Diesel Pollution If any of you are near NYC, and experienced the Diesel pollution in downtown Manhattan as the WTC clean up was in progress, you know this was a long time in coming. If Diesel shakes off it's grimy image, maybe more people will find it to be an acceptable alternative for automotive use. Without going into too much history - the reason it has a Dodge emblem is that Freightliner was/is doing poorly. You are going to see many 'Chrysler' products powered by(or built by) another company(read MB, Hyundai, Mitsibishi, Freightliner). MB needs to move some products and WILL NOT have a re-badged item in their line up. The Sprinter replaced the Dodge full-size van. MB(DCX) thought the faithful buyer, of the Dodge vans, would continue buying the Sprinter. That has not been the case. DCX lost a lot of sales - from the van conversion companies. I really like the 'Sprinter's Mercedes-Benz engine and tough, durable Dodge body', uh yeah, okay. Just what part was made by Dodge? I don't like it - the too tall, too narrow body just looks wrong. Use Chrysler to pedal off the junk made by the others. Facts are - if you wanted a great diesel, buy a MB. If you wanted a tough truck/van - buy a Dodge(even if they are/were ugly). I guess it does make sense, in a sordid way. You now get a great diesel engine, in an ugly van. Anyone sure that it is a MB diesel or is the valve cover the only MB part? ;) And if you have the slightest urge for a Neon SRT, better get it. The next gen. Neons will be Mitsu/Hyundai based. Anyway.... I went to see the Sprinter today..... Dodge dealership near me had about 20 of them on the lot. From what I can see its a rebadged MB.... Spedometer right out of an S class and a very MBesque exterior.... Looks like the interior fabric is dodge though since it looks like it should belong in a neon. I took some photos and could attach them if this list supports that :) or perhaps I could convince John to stick them on his server :) R.
