It seemed to have the same problem tyhat you describes. It ran me $800.00 and really seemed to work wonders. I would get a strange vapor lock after the car ran up to temp and the car would not start again till it cooled down. I put the new part in and it cured the problem about 90% After running the car all day, I still occasionaly get the old problem, but not like I was getting it. The car also runs a bit ruogh at idle and I can seem to adjust it away. makes me think something else is going out, but for now it zips around... - --- Jon Filina wrote: > Jeremy wrote: > > >>Sorry for the non-diesel post. > >>A mechanic friend of mine is selling a 80 450 SEL > with 147,000 miles > >>for 600 dollars. > >> > >> > >>He says it needs a new distributor, > >> > > Jerry replied that he doubted it was the distributor > and I agree. > However, they may be talking "fuel" distributor. > Is your engine fuel > injected? Feel free to smack me although it probably wont hurt over the internet and Ill be sure to look in my driveway and not open the door to anyone driving a Mercedes :) How does the car "let you know" when its time. You get a specific type sound or running charactaristic? or is it a pain to start? Thanks. Robert. Jerome Kaidor wrote: >Hi folks, > > My 300D is way overdue for a valve adjustment. No indication. Acutally, if anything they get quieter. I used to do them Every 50K. I still have a set of 123 Diesel valve adjusting wrenches that I was planning to put up on E-Bay. These are the real deal, Benz approved wrenches, not home bent jobs. Complete set of three makes the job sooooo much easier. I'll offer them here for $40 if anyone's interested. Uh oh. Your odometer probably doesn't work anymore. It's hard to tell, since it very gradually goes out of adjustment, and the 15K interval has you correcting the lash before things get too far out of whack. It's like the 15K interval for spark plugs on my 89 300CE. I can tell the plugs need replacing once they start to die after 30 or 40K, but there's not too much indication at 15K. Your car might be a little harder to start in the very cold, and it might smoke more than necessary when the valves need adjusting. The most my 85 300D ever told me (broken odometer) was when it wanted an oil change. Although mine got primarily highway miles, it would sound a little different at startup after about 3500 miles on the conventional oil and filter. I adjusted her valves once in 8 years, and didn't really notice a difference. She always ran great. (85 190D, 2.2L) I think it's time to move the timing up one more notch. Right after I fix the sunroof... ;) The timing had been really retarded, moved it three notches... we'll see how one more works... EPA rating is 33 in town... 44 on the highway, should be getting better then city economy, mixed driving... of course it is hilly... but still better then the 27/28 I was getting when it first came home. :) john - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 Apr 2003 16:44:24 -0700 From: Michael Frank Subject: 190D Clock Anyone have a spare?
