IIRC you mix about 20% gasoil and 80 nitrate to get a good result. (more details on http://www.vectorsite.net/ttpyro.html ) In this case, the glycerine is immaterial. Now, if you were also stockpiling con centrated sulphuric and nitric acids..... John, Glad to hear it appears your car is getting mileage in the ball park. I am sure the hills are a factor. Thanks for the oil offer, my real problem is storing the oil so I can take it off the hands of restaurants on a regular basis. I figure two 300 gallon oil tanks would suffice. It is a back burner project as I have allot going on at this point with little off time to do it. For the reasons above....(and a lot of soul searching) I am going to part with one of my 190's. The 85' five speed is the logical choice since it requires the most restoration work. If anyone on the list would like a project contact me. I plan on taking it to Stokes Auctions in Port Orchard for the May 17th event. Hoping to get $1000.00 at the hammer drop. I am advising list members this is a project car, if you wish to restore it to its former glory it will cost you. It can be made reliable for the cost of a 5 speed tranny. I have driven on the bad tranny since last September (across the US from Boston to Seattle and a 400 mile a week commute). The car belonged to a HEAVY smoker and has that odor (another reason it is going away). Needs body work because of east coast rust (fender wells mostly). List members may purchase the car AS-IS WHERE-IS for $1100 and you will get all the spare parts I have purchased (Spare radiator, radio/antenna and parking brake cable). If you do not want the parts $1000. This car has the best economy out of the three, I have consistent 37 - 40 MPG. It is maroon red with the palimino interior with MB-tex seats. When it goes to auction I will be keeping the parts for my other car. I am at work right now so I can not provide any pix till tomorrow. Just thought I would metion it though. After I get my 1984 completed it will serve as a training car for my oldest or get sold as well. I am planning to get a 1985 TDT wagon, I made the mistake of driving one the two days ago and have been lusting after one since. I am also on the lookout for a 5 speed 2.5 turbo 190d in good shape. I am done with project cars for a couple of years I think. My other 1985 190d will be with me for the duration, I have about $5000 into it I am going to see if I can flip over the odometer before I leave this earth. :) Derick Amburgey Automated Control Specialist Port Of Seattle/SeaTac Airport/Satellite Train System Amateur Radio Callsign: K7DXX List "Mom" of Diesel-Benz reflector 1985 Mercedes 190D "Tuti" 280,000 Mi 1984 Mercedes 190D "Charity" 160,000 Mi _________________________________________________________________ Add photos to your e-mail with MSN 8. In summer, I think it could work ok. I agree that dealing with the toxic chemicals is daunting. As a former chem major I can attest that there is serious downside potential if things are not done exactly right and if proper precautions are not taken. Also, the method for finding the proper amounts of chemicals to add is called titration, not a trivially simple technique. I enjoy making my own beer and wine, but this biodiesel thing is something I would not tackle. I would certainly like to have an alternate supply of fuel though!
