There are awards for the car, and there are awards for drivers. Both types of awards are available for 250,000, 500,000, and 1 million kilometers, so about 155,000, 310,000, and 620,000 miles. The carbonless triplicate form available from all MB dealers and probably from MB direct (1-800-FOR-MERC) has space for 2 current and 3 previous MBs. For each car, you enter the year and model, the chassis number and engine number (which your MB dealer can provide when given the US VIN), the total odometer reading on the car, and the number of those miles that you put on the car. There's also a place for the name and address of your local MB dealer. I got my form at Mercedes of Austin, and they filled in their name and address plus the engine and chassis numbers for my current car, which has been serviced by them and was in their records. I was able to dig out the VINs on the previous two, but I couldn't find VINs for the first two, so we won't get credit for the miles on the 63 190c sedan or the 80 240D. For the car, the award is based on the total miles on the car, and you get a badge that can be affixed to the grille. For the driver, the award is based on the total number of miles you take credit for behind the wheel of any and all Benzes you can properly identify, and you get a lapel pin and a certificate. You pay one regular stamp in postage to mail the completed form to MBNA. Everything else is free. Allow 4 to 6 weeks for delivery. I'm expecting the 250,000km badge for my 89 300CE with 157K miles, and the 250,000km lapel pin for me between just my current ride and the 85 300D, although I also took credit for my wife's 62,000 miles in her 95 C280. If I'da been able to dig up a VIN on the old 240D or the 190c, I could have fudged my way into a 500,000km lapel pin. I honestly have no recollection whatsoever how many miles we put on either of the two older ones, or of how many miles they showed on the clock when we sold them, so it's probably just as well that I couldn't dig up the VINs. Nope, As well you still can get Mercedes Roadside assistance for "free" (if you dont need a tow) just because your car has a three pronged star on the hood. I had to call the other day when one of my 3 month old Michelens exploded on the highway. The slipped a belt and there was a minefield of metal near the wheel. They were more than happy to send someone out to help even though I decided to get brave and do it myself. Needless to say when I arrived with bloody hands at the tire place I got 4 new Michelens at no charge (with a little prodding). Robert... Aimino, Michael wrote: >OK, dumb questions.
