The system has been converted to R134 and filled to about 90% capacity. The high side pressure on both vehicles exceed 325+ psi with the rpm at 3500-4000. Also, I haven't noticed the AC compressor cycle, it just stays engaged. Thanks in advance for the help. Mark __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo! So I opened the bonnet to check, and the battery had burst open, four of the six cells were open and had leaked the acid all over the place. Quey: given that the engine was not running at the time, can I rule out alternator trouble ? I have replaced the battery, hosed down abundantly then rinced all round the affected area with a solution of bicarbonate of soda. Any more precautions to take ? Be careful, it may happen again with the new battery. - Jerry Kaidor ( jerry-at-tr2.com ) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 02 Jul 2003 23:17:21 -0400 From: Robert Chase Subject: Re: Exploding battery Hmmm, I had that happen more than once. My Volvo did that because of a cell that shorted out. The Volvo dealer explained it as hydrogen gas that collects when a battery charges. Sometimes a short in a cell is all thats needed to set it off. The other time happened when I was younger. My dad was charging the battery in his 1974 Plymouth Duster he finished charging it and wanted me to start the car. When I did the battery exploded and broken plastic broken lead and acid rained down on the car and my brother and father. They of course ran to the shower as fast as they could and I sort of sat in the car in shock. On the w123 the battery tray has a way of rotting out so I would be SUPER anal retentive about getting all of the acid residue out of there. That's about as close to a truck stop I can get in this snooty town (or on my way back home to the peninsula without using olympian - that gas did bad things to a bunch of trucks when I still worked for Mayflower). Looks like gas prices are ramping up for summer, but diesel went up to about where it's at and is hovering. Gas seems to be wavering a few cents per gallon, but we're over two bucks for premium :-/ BUT, my father has the 190D this week because the RF caliper blew on his ranger. He really likes the car, loves how it drives, and is baffled at how it is just dipping below a quarter tank this late in the week, when I gave it to him with a full tank on sunday. I hope I don't need to reposess it from my own father :) Anyways, she's hovering around 38.5-39.5 mpg on the few tanks I've put through her, and the limiting factor seems to be how much dinking around in town or how often I get stuck in traffic happens on that tank.
