John, The key is the year model. Just like Mercedes Benz anything up to 1995 is fine. Same is true with Honda products. I had a 1988 Prelude that was wrecked at 211k and was just as reliable as my Mercedes. The 02 has been a complete dissapointment. There have been several known service issues that they don't take care of unless you complain about them. 98-02 suffers from a badly designed sunroof that squeeks from the factory and is not repaired until you complain. 98-02 also suffers from a drivers seat frame that is flimsy and rocks back and forth. Imagine getting hit in a car with a flimsy seat frame :( My 02 has had problems with brakes (ABS system and rotors), power steering, transmission and tons of little stuff that should not be a problem for a car of its supposed quality. Factor in the fact its already consuming oil at 17k miles equals a car I don't want to deal with anymore. Of course this is from a car that is dealership maintained from new on the "severe" service schedule (oil changes every 3750mi). I have been quite normal in my driving since it does not have as much power as my Volvo Did (5spd S70's are awsome ) Luckilly it has a new transmission and perhaps a new owner if things work out this week with the buyer. If I knew what I knew now I would be driving a Volvo S70 and a Mercedes :). But the good thing is this does give me the chance to buy another Benz :) Any suggestions for a good value fun to drive MBZ? Already looking at 6.3/6.9's and Pagoda SL's :) Robert Chase john wrote: > everyone I know with a honda sings nothing but praises > about them... you must really have a lemon. > > I've driven one, but it had led an abused life, and still > it seemed ok. not my cup of tea for sure. > > john > > At 08:21 AM 8/4/2003 -0400, Robert Chase wrote: > >> Hmmm, >> >> Perhaps they should air the mess ups and change the voice over to >> "wouldent it be nice if things just worked?". The top was worth much more than the stereo, therefore I would never lock my car. I had a pull-out stereo that I'd stash in the trunk and I'd leave nothing of value inside the car. Never had a problem. I do think the car was entered several times and they found nothing to steal. Frankly, in a bad neighborhood I'd worry more about my hood ornament than my Becker radio. Actually, the couple times I parked the 190D in the tenderloin (friend of mine DJ's at a bar there occasionally) that was what I was worried about. Cranksters wouldn't mess with stealing a rusty old diesel, and there was nothing of value in it, but the hood ornament would be a pain to replace. John told me of a catalog that sold removable hood ornaments, and he had one on an earlier 617 powered car (couldn't remember if it was the 300D or 300SD). When we looked in that catalog for the w201, we couldn't find one. One of these days, I'm going to call that company and see if I can get one that will fit my car. > I really doubt anyone would steal an old MBZ diesel. I joke about leaving my car unlocked at work (in walnut creek, aka soccer mom hell, about two blocks from the police station and a block from a donut shop) - it's a normally aspirated diesel, so I could outrun it to the stoplight, and beyond that, a cop car can outrun it in reverse. Hmm, I'm not worried about my hood ornament. If someone stole it it would be an excuse to buy another. Mine leans when I get up to 80mph (hey its a nice cruising speed). Its annoying having the "ghetto lean" on the hood ornament (it leans to the side) Robert Chase Kevin Pekarek wrote: > On Mon, Aug 04, 2003 at 08:55:05AM -0700, Paul Schwartz wrote: > >>I drove a convertible for many years (Alfa Syder) and came to the conclusion >>that if someone wanted my stereo that he'd slash the top.
