Then it settles on other items in the car, until the whole interior is covered in it. The answer is to stick an activated carbon filter in the car. This will trap, or "adsorb" the smoke smell stuff when it outgasses, so it can't settle on anything again. Also try------------- http://www.misterfix-it.com/Solutions/12Odors.html#smoke Removing smoke smells from home or car Once cigarette smoke smell has penetrated finish materials in a home or car, it is difficult to remove. Professional cleaners or scents to cover the smell don't always work. One great way to remove or cover smoke smells is with Pine-Sol cleaner. Place several small bowls of Pine-Sol in the problem area and close it off overnight or for several days. Pine-Sol's detergent smell is very strong. Afterward, open the area and ventilate with outdoor air. As fresh air removes the detergent scent, most or all of the smoke odor will be gone, too. - ----------------------- - Jerry Kaidor ( jerry-at-tr2.com ) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Aug 2003 13:52:51 -0400 From: Robert Chase Subject: Re: smokey interoir! Hue, Go to target and they have a small bissell cleaner for carpet. I have one and have found it wonderful for cleaning interiors. My parents were heavy smokers and I recently cleaned the interior of their car. The odor is still somewhat present but the yellow stains are gone. I dont think comet is going to do anything but destroy your headliner. Its also great for cleaning your carpet in the interior of the car. I pulled out my seats in my 300SD and cleaned under them. You can spray the headliner with oxy clean as a pre cleaner (or use some of the bissel pre cleaner which is great stuff) and then use the cleaner on the headliner. I paid about $70 for my bissel cleaner and its great for little stains on my carpets at home (I have 2 cats and 2 dogs). Robert Good call, what was I thinking. I seem to remember a small "mean-green' bissel cleaner in the back of my closet. I'll break that thing out tonight and start going over the interior. (the tan is a somewhat grey funk now) the exterior of the car is like 90% and I'd like to get the interior squared away! Thanx for the wakeup call! On a positive note. The shop just called and and the expensive front end rebuild I was expecting, just turned out to be a bad front tire which was starting to seperate, thus the vibrations I got going down the road! For the price of two new tires I got the whole mess fixed AND two new tires! Rock on, I'm gonna really like this car I think. The only other problem I suspect is the tranny. It seems to shift funny from 2 to 3, sometimes it does the clunk shift (at low revs), sometimes it seems like it's slipping just a hair before the shift at high revs and reverse is a little sloppy it seems with about two or three seconds between shifting it into reverse and the actual tranny engaging. I'm not sure if it's way of the car (never had a 82 300td only a 89 300sd) or something might be amiss. I've only put like 60 miles on it. Oh well. cars. it's always something with 'em ;-) - --- Robert Chase wrote: > Hue, > > Go to target and they have a small bissell cleaner > for carpet.
