I have been knocked cold on my butt by a virus. Nasty one, 100.5 fever been holding on for 2 days fever just broke tonight. I have put myself into quarentine alone with me, my computer, dishnetwork and a couple of tech manuals (the latter was to induce sleep). Popping asprin like candy with green tea chaser. My taste buds are still numb everything tasted like Navy food (metallic taste). Almost flu like. I am just glad the weather has been cooler while my immune system has had this challenge. Assuming of course the worse is over. Given my activities over the past week there is no doubt that SITA is where it invaded my person. SO if you go I would wear a mask, if you do not have a mask I saw some of the overseas people using bras... ;) Good night and don't let the bugs bite. :) Derick ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Aug 2003 23:31:45 -0700 From: john Subject: Re: Caution: If your going to SeaTac Airport hope you feel better... Yes, I looked at all the overpriced Teutonic stuff... I visited the local car toys and Costco... costco had a nice Blaupunkt for about 119, plenty of power and all that, but it didn't do mP3s. car toys had a panasconic for $179 installed (too much, budget was for around $150) So I narrowed my search down to a Sony MDX40 or something like that on ebay and elsewhere: http://osnews.pricegrabber.com/rating_getprodrev.php/masterid=675260/ut=d1dd8a6914cca4f4 and this JVC: http://www.ikesound.com/images/ebay/KD-S890.jpg (actually details here: http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/item/features/414229838;jsessionid=neqg3s4071 I ended up going with the JVC at Vann's for several reasons: 1) the rotary volume control 2) the relatively subdued face (although I think the Sony with it's black face and swooping lines might have looked better) 3) the good reviews it received, and the fact that I still have a JVC 4-channel receiver since 1977, it has a problem now, but has been excellent for years. 4) the unit seemed to have a lot of nice features for MP3 5) vann's seemed to have an excellent website and favorable reviews/feedback So, I'm going to gather up my CDs and start ripping MP3s on my mac. It'll be so nice to have a variety of music to listen to without fumbling through cds or cassettes... I have an am/fm/sw cassette (sony xplod) with a cd changer for my j10, of course it was supposed to be done two years ago... but I can use my cassette adapter and portable sony walkman/cd/mp3 unit to play the mp3s in my truck as well... I will save the stock radio and will install the unit in such a way as to leave the stock wiring connectors intact. I may see if I can find an adapter even. car toys mentioned they have them. I guess the rear speaker control will need to be bypassed. So, the questions for the list are these: ('91 300d 2.5LTD) (heated seats) HOW DO I GET THE RADIO OUT OF THIS DASH? HOW DO I GET THE CENTER CONSOLE OUT TO REACH THE FADER? You know I could take my sawzall to the Benz radio and cut the face off and put it over the JVC when I remove it's face so it looks stock when I'm not in it. ;) With fuel prices the way they are I plan on keeping this car for a while... of course, things like that are subject to change without notice. :) later, john - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... I ended up spending $151.46. $1.46 over budget. Some of the ebay auctions had some attractive buy-it now prices, but they were insane with their shipping. $18.95 PLUS another $18.95 to ship something that probably costs about $7.00 to send out... That's one of the reasons I went with Vann's, the shipping was free (normal ground). They didn't have a bunch of nonsense add-ons. There was one Sony http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3042481532&category=39753 where the guy had free shipping... but he was at 75% on his feedback... total $155.00 tough decision, but I am looking forward to having a better stereo in the Benz... I almost bought an RF mp3/cd setup... but then I remember how much I dislike this radio, the bass/treble controls are awkward and the bass distorts... of course changing and programming stations is a lesson in illogic and spastic response... when I push a button I expect things to happen... why make me wait? :) - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... These tires are basically brand new, just the wrong size for the car and throws the speedo off. Shouldn't be a problem to ship... the tires retail for $118 each at costco (that includes mounting and balancing), discount tire has the tires at $124 each! plus mount/balance... I'm leaning toward getting a set of the Yokohama YK-420s at Discount tire (similiar to the Avid H4's) Total bill is around $400 or so... will have to check on the quote later, john - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... For a high powered deck like that I would suggest option #2 honestly. On my 126 the center console pulls up with a bit of coaxing. You have to be careful not to crack anything or scratch anything in the process. Regarding the radio MB radio's are removed via a special set of keys. They are cheap and can probably be obtained at a dealership. You can get a wiring harness adapter at www.crutchfield.com. If you do everything right putting your old stereo back in 6 months from now should be a breeze. Robert. john wrote: > been surfing ebay for the last couple of days...
