I might have mentioned wiggling them but I think someone else did that. I tried the glass fuses for a while and did not like them because they blew out to quickly. Some ceramic fuses and my car's electrical issues have gone away. Good luck. My brothers 300D had a "burned out headlight" that we discovered was really a bad fuse. His A/C even went out on im and it was also a bad fuse. I think Im going to steal his fuse box door one afternoon while he is not looking and go to our parts guy and get a full set of fuses for him and give them to him as a gift... I've held on to a lot of these parts because I know they're hard to come by. Pictures should explain what the parts are... I'll be adding more stuff as I go along... smaller pix end with _.jpg http://www.wagoneers.com/ebay/misc-auto/ Amsoil filters, bypass assembly, speakers, alarm system and a few other goodies will be going up there soon... may sell my Canon FTb camera and lenses and Nikon 8mm video camera as well... I went to check the transmission fluid in my 190D. Couldn't get a reading. Dipstick looked strange. Realized that the tip of the dipstick had broken off, and was now in the pan. Sooo...I had the opportunity to perform my second transmission oil change in two weeks. Fortunately, the errant tip was resting safely in the pan. Anyone have a spare dipstick? Try pushing it back in and wiggle it a bit as you go. *** Can't be done. The tube takes a torturous path between the exhaust manifold and the head or block. To push it through that path takes serious force. Yeah, I know, on the bench it's a 1 minute job. I am now the proud owner of a slide hammer dipstick tube puller :). It started out as a flat piece of steel strap. I machined a slot in one end, and drilled a hole in the other end. Then bent it in the shape of an S, with the hole in one tail, and the slot in the other tail. The slot just slightly wider than the diameter of the dipstick. Then I welded a pair of 90-degree bent steel rods to the back of the slotted end to strengthen it. Each rod forms a small triangle, giving geometric strength to the bend at the end. > As far as I know, they are press fit and not all that tight. Your > struggle to get it out was more due to heat and crud than anything else. *** Nah, it was due to the torturous path past the exhaust manifold, and the tension created thereby. Also, the tube pushes a full 5 inches into the sump. - Jerry Kaidor ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 12 Oct 2003 23:09:57 -0400 From: Robert Chase Subject: Re: [db] Strange electrical problems, update Hmmm, Now thats an idea..... I overdid about a year ago and fell asleep going about 30 mph. I smacked two cars and messed up the front end and the passenger side. It has 4 Michelin tires that have about 200 miles on them. Two were messed up in the wreck and have never been driven on. I was going to fix it, but too much to do and too little time to do it. This needs to be someone else's project. It will start and move, but needs a radiator and fan. I'll send pix to any and all that are interested. I'd like someone in our group to have it. I have no reserve price. Email me if your interested. This was a pretty cool deflector, if it was the one you bought when you and I went to aurora to get my transmission. it had little flaps at the top of it for redeflecting, and had a pretty dark tint to get rid of that five o'clock glare that you washingtonians don't have to deal with. anyone elsewhere caught driving west around that time with the sunroof open knows what I am talking about. Anyways, it's a cool unit and was in great shape. He got it off a w123 300DT that was in his favorite color - about the color you get if you mix dijon mustard, yellow mustard, and mayonnaise in equal parts :) K - -- Kevin Pekarek Redwood City, CA (near San Francisco) and Los Osos, CA (near San Luis Obispo) 85 190D (601, 5spd) ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #1246 **********************************
