I'm still kicking myself (lightly) for not going after that '87 300D with the 3.0L, didn't know enough about the 124's then and it had a lot of issues. :) oh well... my '91 is superb, loving it... my only concern with that car would be rust, otherwise the mileage is not a problem. Their prices are based on actual selling prices rather than book values. Right now the car market is still screwed up due to the low financing rate and rebates the car dealers are giving. Private party sales are going quite low right now. Unless your buying something "rare" its a buyers market with lots of cars for sale. Even if your buying something "rare" if the price difference is enough start looking nationally and find your car and drive it back. MMm Oddly enough I'm experienceing this phenomonon. I do the daily commute here in seattle and its a rare day I can get up to 55-60 mph for the 10 miles it takes on the 405 Freeway to drive to work. Although, I've noticed that if I drive like a race car and hit the overdirve ,I'll get a HUGE puff of black smoke, but after a few days of this the car seems to run a bit better (still seems to smoke) I thought I was going nuts... as my past experience has been that cars that let out huge puffs of black smoke, do not drive better the next day and in fact dive less better as the weeks and months go on... On another fun note: About this time last year I got rear-ended at about 35-40 and it totaled (in a big way) the little dawoo Lanos Lx commuter I was chugging around in. Popped the bumpers, broke the motor mounts, ripped hoses off the motor, crumpled the impact zones along the sides... Just the other, in almost the exact same spot in the road, a cell phone taliking 19 year old gal in a new ford explorer readed me at at a stop sign at about 20-25mph. Rocked my car around, but did not damage at all, didn't even scratch the chome on the rear bumper BUT popped her front bumper and popped the right front light assembly. I got to drive away with nary a worry, she however will have to rebuild her new (hiddiously unpaid for) SUV... I also had my seat headrest adjusted right (with the headrest angled down into the curve of my neck right below the skull) and instead of getting a vicious case of whiplash, I got more of a funfilled amusment park ride... I love a good mercedes road tank! - --- acordova-at-texas.net wrote: > > > You regularly encounter people who acquire > examples that were driven too > > > softly, and for the first few months, the engine > gets happier and smoother > > and > > > peppier just by being regularly driven fairly > hard. > > > > > > This was definatly true for my 240D.
