Checking fluid levels noticed the steering fluid is starting to look a little "scanky" Does any one know how you empty and flush the steering system? I believe looking at an isometric drawing of my pump there is a filter in there too. Any words of wisdom, looks like an easy job if I could figure how to drain system. Do you unscrew a hose? Once filled back up do you bleed air? What is proper way to fill system? Thanks in advance. My return hose was leaking and when I pulled it to replace it with a new one my entire system emptied itself on my driveway. The PS pump was completely empty of fluid and I just filled it back up and had no problems with my steering at all. No bleeding or anything. It just worked. Im sure there are "leftovers" but if you pull the lower connection to your power steering return line the system will empty itself. It might be a good idea to replace the return hose just for the heck of it. Mine started leaking and was leaving fluid in my driveway. Also. Just an FYI. The power sterring fluid in these cars is ATF fluid. So if your running low you can top it off with ATF. Regular power steering fluid would probably do horrible things in there. Good luck! It is amazing how clean the fluid can get with this simple step.
