All this talk of how to improve my cold-weather starts on my 71 220D and now I have bigger problems. . . The car idles fine, and seems to drive fine on flat surfaces, but hard accelerations, and putting the engine under load (making it up the many hills on my morning commute) cause the car to stutter and lose power like it isn't getting any fuel. A couple of times I had to pull over and the card completely died, but then started right back up. I'm hoping I just have some clogged fuel filters? I dumped some Cetane boosting stuff in the tank with this last fill up that I'm thinking might have freed up some crud in the fuel system. I'm gonna change the fuel filters either way, as they are past due, does it sound like this will fix my problem? If not, where should I start checking? I would suggest doing fuel filters and diesel purge on your car before really trying to do any other diagnostic work. My 300SD purred like a kitten and I changed the fuel filters just for the heck of it and when I went on my test drive I accidently chirped the tires leaving my subdivision. Just yesterday I did a purge on my brothers car and my car and there was a noticable difference in smoothness in both engines. My brother's 300D now sounds a lot better (he had a bit of injector nailing) and my car has a lot smoother engine response as well.
