If it is a reputable vendor, I'd say the best you can expect is a replacement water pump and no cost. But maybe they'll prove me wrong; after a while I tend to take a pessimistic view towards such things. Good luck! J.B. Bummer. But at least it looks like you've figured out what went wrong, so it shouldn't happen again on the new CC part. I would think the first supplier's liability is strictly a factor of how much he wants to keep you as a customer. He now has an opportunity to make you at least happy enough to keep shopping with him, or unhappy enough to completely stop shopping with him. I see his choices as: 1 - Do nothing. 2 - Refund your aux water pump. 3 - Cover the difference you had to pay for the correct aux water pump. 4 - 2+3: Refund the wrong pump, and cover the full cost of the correct one. 5 - Also contribute to the cost of the replacement climate control computer. Now it's pretty much the standard drill. Figure out how far you believe he must go to keep your business, see if he will go that far, and stick with the result. But you already know that stuff, so now I'm just rambling. ;-) At least shadowfax will be able to return to service. Actually, You made a great point there. The really sad thing here is it would be REALLY easy to make this situation good again. All the vendor would have to do is do an RMA on the water pump part and replace it with the MB one and then offer John "his price" on the Climate control unit. Would cost the guy nothing out of pocket and save a customer relationship. But unfortunatly with the way the business world is moving customer relationships are not important as they used to be. In a lot of cases customer service is MUCH more important than price. I deal with a guy here locally because you can go in and talk to him face to face. Sometimes his prices are a little higher but its well worth it not having to wait for the item to ship and dealing with someone on the phone when somthing goes wrong. You might receive a pleasant surprise. If you suggest the solution, you can be sure that is the most he will give. I recently used this approach on an eBay purchase that was incorrectly described. I was very surprised and pleased with the seller's response. Good luck! I had to destroy the grill to get into the latch. Well I got the part right away but did not have the time to put it in till recent. I have dicovered a few things I would like to pass along. 1. When you replace the hood cable MAKE SURE the replacement has the spring on the end of the cable the attaches to the latch. That spring helps keep the latch secure when you hit a bump. 2. The grill itself acts like a wing, if you look at the angle of the horizonal molding you will notice the air will push the front end of the hood down. 3. After you replace the hood cable some fine tuning me be in order to ensure maximum contact area with the hood receiver/latching mechanism. This was learned the "hard way". Had to pull over a few times. As a safety note: If you must run the car with a hole cut in the grill tie the front of the hood to the bumper with a rope or bungee. I know the safety latch is there but they fail. Unrelated tip: Make sure you open your trunks once in awhile to air out, the condensation gets pretty bad in there. Mine turned into a swap. Took two days in the sun to dry it out. Later Derick - --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
