We have for quite some time been able to keep our conversations civil without your guidance. Personally if I were not involved in this "flame" I would find the information presented quite useful for deciding if I wanted to utilize the services of the vendor in question. Rather than say "im sorry" the vendor in question is joking about a customers experience with his services. That would be quite useful for me to determine I would not want to be the brunt of this vendors humor. A couple of messages between list members hardly is a flame. Neither one of us have resorted to name calling or rudeness. I don't plan to and will promptly ignore any further messages if the conversation headed in that direction. Greetings... When I started this list in '98 the intent was to share info on Mercedes Diesels and provide a place to help each other. From time to time we've wandered off topic... ok, enough so that the list provider created a haven for our off topic discussions. :) but that's another topic... ;) But IT is useful for us to know about suppliers and experiences, both good and bad. >>--> BUT IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT WE STICK TO FACTS <---<< and share that info politely, without emotion and not attacking each other or a vendor. We ALL have bad days, bad experiences and personality conflicts, that's the way life is... It happens... question is, has the bad experience happened to others on a REGULAR basis... as far as I can tell that's NOT the case for either Randy or Rusty. So I think we need to relax a bit. A valid issue was raised, and was polite and non-offensive. The response to it was clearly in flame territory... I mean starting out ANY sentence with "Who are you to..." generally does not lead to good things or loving relationships... ...it typically involves stitches or dental care... or in the case of internet lists such as this, the very strong possibility of instigators reading the digests via a web site instead of their email. Some of the comments made by Robert to Rusty also seemed to have the characteristics of a flame... Maybe I'm having a bad day and I'm just misreading these messages, could be... hard to say... but either way, we need to play nice together and it didn't look like it was going that way today... Rusty has been on this list as long as I can remember and has never been a problem, never spammed us, never pushed his services, either that or I have a really bad memory and am very forgiving, however, a read through the digests will confirm one or the other.... As far as I can tell from from others and from personal experience he was undeserving of what was dealt out today. Both Randy and Rusty have a solid, well earned reputation and a great track record of service. It is somewhat apparent that Rusty will not have Robert as a customer, and some how I get the idea that REALLY won't bother him very much... ok, so let's move on... But, let's remember the four rules... see: http://wagoneers.com/DieselBenz/list-info.txt The "FOUR" List Rules: 1) NO flames. 2) NO foul language. 3) keep it Family oriented. 4) keep the subject list oriented. later, john (listmom at large...) ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 May 2004 00:34:43 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: Re: [db] Parts Supplier Rhetoric - chill pill time! I'm not booting you or trying to censor anyone. You're the first person on this list since it started in 1998 that's ever said anything negative about Rusty... The digests are on my server, feel free to search them and refresh my feeble memory... and I think they may be on digest.net as well, in case you think I would have taken the time to purge them from the digests stored on wagoneers.com Bias and personal agenda??? huh? good night, john >--> >--> >-->john wrote: >--> >-->>Greetings... >-->> >-->>When I started this list in '98 the intent was to >-->>share info on Mercedes Diesels and provide a >-->>place to help each other. Well, after almost a year without my ASD functioning properly and not having a regular day job and not wanting to spend the $400 or so bucks to replace it... I've hit upon another solution... "what if" I simply activate the solenoid that engages the rear differential locker manually... hmmm... for those unfamiliar with the 124 series ASD system, it's part of the 4matic system... mainly the back half... it's rare to find one in a car, the guy that wrote the 124 book, Stu, isn't very familiar with it. Anyway, the ASD, anti-slip differential is a mostly limited slip rear end that has a LOCKING feature when it senses wheel slip... Way COOL if this were a JEEP! Everytime that rascal has kicked in on wet roads I've gone sideways in a powerslide... ok, so that's cool in a Diesel sedan but kind of annoying when you don't want to play the teenager or pretend like you're driving a dragster... ;) So, today when my mechanic friend was over and we were working on my son's 123 and my 124 I found the schematics in the trunk and said, lookie here... if we jumper a ground to pin 10 of the ASD module it should engage the solenoid... we looked closer and found that the solenoid connector lives under the back seat... So we yanked out the back seat and found the connector, yep, brown wire, white stripe and a brown wire, disconnected them and applied voltage to the solenoid manually... hmmm... we hear a clunking sound coming from the rear end. :) So I'm going to get one of those cool switches with the red cover that you flip up to engage an ARB air locker, or to fire missles... and mount it somewhere... In the meantime I'll run some wire back there and use a blade fuse to engage it... cool way to save $400 and still have my locker... I was really impressed with the way the car worked going up a steep road in the snow... when I got to the top I found out the road was closed... ;) I also have been able to drive up my side yard where the Jeep has to be in 4wd to make it... so the limited slip rear end works great... john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #1469 **********************************
