I had an '87 300 SDL. One gentleman from Europe sent an email that a lot of Germans tow with these cars, up to 2 tons. Not sure what else needs to be done to the car, perhaps a transmission cooler? A Mercedes indie mechanic recommended against it, but did not give what I considered to be a satisfactory reason for not towing with one of these cars - these cars were meant for hauling people, not trailers. I did not find a US based source for these hitches. It was attached to the bumper and bent metal immediately in front of the bumper that passes for a frame in a Monoque car. The hitch was rated at 2,000 lbs. There is an MB tranny cooler that can be added to the 123s--I don't know about other models but it would be easy enough to re-route the tranny cooler lines on an automatic. Then one could use the radiator cooler for heating WVO ;) On Jun 3, 2004, at 9:46 AM, Randy Eisenhardt wrote: > Jeff > > Based on the replies I got when doing the same inquiry, it is possible. > I had an '87 300 SDL. I seem to have a big accumulation of oil on the outside of the block (most of it). Where does it normally start leaking from? I'm not sure if its condensation carrying some oil off the block or if there is a leak dripping (v.slowly... 4-5 drips over night) onto the ground underneath. Also, couldn't find a 190D with an engine in it in any of the scrapyards I went to yesterday, so I'm having a new line made from slightly thicker tubing (but same inside diameter), hopefully should get her back on the road for its 300+ mile drive this weekend. I'm not very creative at naming my vehicles but I name them all ;) Except this new F-350... I'm having trouble with that one! :) Jim/ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 04 Jun 2004 22:02:57 -0700 From: john meister Subject: [db] new rotors and pads just installed the new cross drilled / slotted rotors and pads... :) look ma, no squeal! :) sure was nice not pulsating and making noises when I stopped. :) out there waxing shadowfax right now... Kevin and Scott have done it before... of course they're a bit younger then me... ;) looks like shadowfax might need new shocks, the mechanic that helped me with the brakes over at my friend's house pointed out that one is leaking, another worn... funny, doesn't feel bad. :) planning on installing a switch to lock the rear end to fix that ASD problem... still have a slight leak on the side of the injection pump, but otherwise this ship is ready to sail... :) I should pump my tires up a couple extra pounds to help the mileage... :) let's see if I can get this thing up over 38.76... john ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #1479 **********************************
