He's about 4 hours away from my uncle's house in saugus... will stay there tomorrow and then he's got about 8 more hours to make it to base in Tucson. so far so good... again it's wonderful having friends all over the country... you guys rock! thanx, john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Jul 2004 16:12:59 -0400 From: wblack-at-deltacorp.com Subject: [db] 240D overheats - now rough idle The water pump developed a leak. 1982 240D overheated. I let it cool off, started it back up, topped off the water and made it home. Replaced the water pump. Car made the 40 mile trip to the office but now idles rough. It no longer overheats but the rough idle makes me worry. Cracked head/block? Burnt valve? Valves out of adjustment? It drives fine going down the road, just really lazy from a stop and a rough idle. Thought I might try a valve adjustment since I haven't done it on this one since I got in November(28K miles ago). I have been meaning to get to it but have had another 240D in my way taking up must of my time. It stumbles until you get going, after about 5/10 mph it clears up and runs normal. I only notice black smoke upon start - up. I have another 240D that has a bad engine that I can rob the injectors from. What goes bad with the injectors after overheating? Coolant and oil seem normal as before. Hello fellow listers, Well the scrap yard has the title. I am on the list for pickup so what is left with the 300 will be going to the crusher. Thanks to everyone who bought parts! I have about three requests from list members wondering how I made out. I got the car for free. I put $1200 into it to get it here. I ran the numbers and I came out $250 ahead after all expenses. However; I put a tremendous amount of time into it. Pulling the parts, pictures, writing copy, advertising in other lists (Usenet, Craig's list, etc....). A good part of the time was spent fielding questions. It seems when you are parting Mercedes out everyone assumes your are a all around Mercedes guru. I directed some of them to join the list so I could share the love with ll of ya. ;) So.... if you have nothing better to do with your time and can get your cars cheap. Go for it. If there are any other questions feel free to ask. Thanks again! Derick - --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). I want that Diesel in a WJ, not that butt ugly KJ toon town looking thing... I'm tempted to go for one just because of the Diesel, but can't get my wife to even ride in one... :( However, the VW Toureg she saw and didn't say yuch... 38mpg has it's appeal, and the first look didn't sour the idea... I'll always have a Jeep... but that Toureg is on my radar screen... and with the very possible reality of a normal day job in my future, Lord willing, I may be able to make a move in six months or so on a "new" vehicle... we'll see... I think paying off the house makes more sense then buying a new car, but hey, one can dream... ;) john At 07:09 AM 7/6/2004, Tesar Landon-r16884 wrote: >Thought you might like this exchange with 'the guide' at >about.trucks.com.
