I had similar symptoms (but quickly discovered the leak) when my fuel supply lines developed a crack. They'd corroded and then I went over a nasty pothole, and that was all she wrote. Ended up running a rubber bypass hose underneath the passenger cabin (along the pathway of the original lines) from the fitting at the tank, all the way to the "banana hose" at the spin-on fuel filter, IIRC. An easy problem to spot... I was oozing about an ounce and a half of diesel a day. Maybe you're sucking air from the underbelly... New subframe mounts are tricky to seat. Spring pads may require spring compressor but otherwise easy. Each time I replace a rubber piece am very pleased with the improvement. How much of a job is replacing the rubber? I just did motor mounts and after psyching myself out that is was ahard job, relaized it was rather quite easy and only took a few hours.. I think my 300t needs some rear bushing work, but I have no idea of the scope of the job! - --- Sam Williams <1sam-at-io.com> wrote: > Nick, > > That is more likely collapsed rear subframe, > differential mounts and spring > pads than bad springs. If they leak air into the system, you'll have to pump it up after the car sits. They aren't expensive and are often the culprit. If you remove your fuel cap in the morning and there is a big "whoosh", your vent line may be clogged. Usually shows up by poor performance instead of hard starting, but on a 240D, how can you tell? You could try cleaning the screen at the bottom of the tank but this would be that last resort. Put some Biorbor in the tank first to kill any algae. You may see the prefilter get dark if there was any in the tank. Remove all the fuel you can by driving and siphoning before you attempt to remove the screen at the fuel pickup. You'll still get a diesel shower, just a smaller one. Try the hand primer pump first, sound like air in the fuel lines. I think Chuck's right. Sealing in the hand primer pump is known to fail. If you have trouble seating them, use some silicon oil. Don't use any other oil as this will destroy the rubber in time. Rico > > Differential mount is easy. New subframe mounts are > tricky to seat.
