The car is sitting dead in the parking garage at my work (and has been for the last week while I waited for the new regulator to arrive), so I don't have a whole lot of time to poke around and figure it out as I go. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ben. _________________________________________________________________ Is your PC infected? Get a FREE online computer virus scan from McAfee. It is also a brush assembly. I have had to remove the plastic cover on the back my alternators to get to it. Quick job. I have always attacked it from the bottom by jacking up the front of the car. Since you have the 300d you may have more room and can do it from the top. Once the plastic cover is off on the back there are two screws fastening the regulator to the body of the alternator. Be careful here it is easy to mess up the heads of the screws. Replace the same way you remove, by tilting the brushes in first. I know this is a given, but do disconnect the (+) battery terminal beforehand. (imagine, trees, in Oregon... what will they think of next? :) There... in that big building is sitting the world's largest airplane. The famed Spruce Goose... They have an SR-71 sitting under the left wing and it looks like a toy... They actually let you go up into the hull... but not onto the flight deck... :( http://www.sprucegoose.com/aircraft_artifacts/exhibits.html Anyway, this thing is incredible... and worth the trip if you're in the area... admission is $11 (or $10 if you're a veteran) per person... a little spendy, but they've got some nice exhibits... I'll put my pictures up later... john ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Jul 2004 14:16:43 -0500 From: Jon Filina Subject: Re: [db] adventures "off" I-5 "Penguin" John wrote: > Just got back from teaching a Linux class down in CA... on the > trip back wandered over to McMinnville, OR > There... in that big building is sitting the world's largest > airplane. Talk about a neat day!! I just wish I'd had a camera with me... The Queen Mary was impressive. The engine room has to be seen to be believed! But, the Spruce Goose blew me away! Once you see how big that wooden bird is, it's hard to imagine that it actually flew. I think we were able to view the cockpit, but not actually enter it. Those were two fascinating exhibits! I'll edit my pix and put 'em up on my server in a little bit... :) I managed to take a few shots of my Diesel Benz along the way (MLC. ;) john Jon Filina wrote: > "Penguin" John wrote: > >> Just got back from teaching a Linux class down in CA... on the >> trip back wandered over to McMinnville, OR > > >> There... in that big building is sitting the world's largest >> airplane. On both of mine the regulator/brushes are a unit and screw in from underneath the alternator. It can be easily done without jacking up the car. Two smallish straight slot screws are removed; the unit removed and the new one screwed in. The job is greatly facilitated by a Craftsman ratcheting offset screwdriver, because the clearance is not much in front of the screw slot. If you have this tool, allocate 15 minutes. Your alternator may be different! Greg Greg Fiorentino gfior-at-dslnorthwest.net ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Jul 2004 22:28:56 -0700 From: john meister Subject: [db] Arizona relics? Anyone near Tucson, AZ that knows of any older J-series trucks that are for sale? My son wants to get another '60's vintage FSJ while he's down in Arizona. He's got his '82 300D Turbo Diesel down there... but I think he plans on heading up into the desert and the Benz just isn't quite the rig for that sort of thing... :) I know of a couple up in Seattle, but he was quite clear that he wanted to find one down there... guess he realizes that he'd spend more in fuel getting it to Arizona then he'd pay for it. :) john ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #1509 **********************************
