What's all this fuss about putting a 289 in a 300D? WAIT a holdit!!! If I read the previous posts correctly, the son of John is planning on putting a four letter word (FORD) into a hyphenated one (MERCEDES-BENZ). The horror of it all!!! The least he could do is put a 350 there....that will cover 9 of the 11 letters (the hyphen is on it's own...) They say an acorn falls not far from the tree. This sounds like a case of the tree falling on the son's head.... Alec, we need to spike the popcorn if we are to survive this chapter. Kevin, ya got's the proper spirits? If so, send 'em. If not, sprinkle in some Shiner's, Pearl or Lone Star until I can find a suitable additive to numb our minds. We're gonna need to get "comfortably numb" to survive this... I've got that CD around here somewhere... This may not be the weirdest chapter in the "Meister Chronicles" but it sure ranks up there! Pass da popcorn, Alec. Leave the suburban intact, you'll need it. THEN, for your jeep, you need a detroit from a bus. Mount it in the bed of your J-10 backwards, send the driveshaft forward through the cab to a divorced transfercase under the hood. You'll need one of those twin stick conversions, because the axles will be backwards on the transfercase. You'll probably want a big ol honkin allison automatic, because shifting a nine speed with the shift pattern reversed could be a little interesting. :) > Kevin, ya got's the proper spirits? I only have to deal with one chevy for a while, and it's going away soon. Might evenutally get that K30 my friend has, but it's high on the rambo factor, so I'll deal. > I think either way will be fine... that OM617 is tired... getting it > up here might be too expensive... Yeah, I dusted a chopped honda in the 190D coming down 24 from the caldecott into oakland today. That 190 really stays put on curves at speed since it's gotten all that suspension work. I don't remember them ever putting a v8 in a w123, but if he wants to get himself in some real trouble, a 190E 2.6 or a 300E should be able to get him into trouble. I've never driven a w123 280E, so I don't know how they are for performers, but the handling difference between a w123 and a w201 or w124 is amazing. If he doesn't care about fuel mileage, there's always a w116 450SEL... :) K - -- Kevin Pekarek Redwood City, CA (near San Francisco) and Los Osos, CA (near San Luis Obispo) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 07 Aug 2004 21:21:37 -0700 From: john meister Subject: Re: [db] Diesel dreams can come true... :) or the continuing my first car was a '68 Mustang... 289... :) had it over in Germany with me. too bad the rust from Chicago winters got to it... I still think one of the main reasons our Benzes are so good in the twisties is that the suspension provides *consistent and predictable* performance over uneven surfaces, especially as the rear suspension progressed from the 116 swing axles through the 123 semi-trailing arms up to the 124/201 5-link setup. Just think about older American iron with a solid rear axle taking a curve at speed and hitting some bumps. Remind us, please, of Shadowfax's current condition. It may be time for me to return to the diesel fold. I think it's downhill... because the return leg is never as good... also has a headwind... "only" 34 mpg or so coming back. ;) needs a new serpentine belt and soon an oil change. the traction control system quit working but I figured out how to manually activate the rear locker... the limited slip still works fine. all other systems functioning as designed and quite well. put all new brakes and crossdrilled/slotted rotors on, even waxed it. :) As soon as SuperDawg is done and working I will put shadowfox up for adoption. I wouldn't imagine it being any earlier then next March or April... at the rate the SuperDawg project is progessing it may be longer... :( john Alec Cordova wrote: > I still think one of the main reasons our Benzes are so good in the twisties > is that the suspension provides *consistent and predictable* performance > over uneven surfaces, especially as the rear suspension progressed from the > 116 swing axles through the 123 semi-trailing arms up to the 124/201 5-link > setup.
