A euro version converted 1983 300DT. The trip home was uneventful considering the first attempt ended in a broken timing chain (defective connector link). The only issue I have is the steering box. The slack it is about 1.5 inches on the outside of the steering wheel and it's an abrupt slack. On the highway I was constantly moving the wheel to stay centered. I did adjust the box at the beginning of the trip but I fear that it's on it's last legs. The adjustment screw is out just under an inch from the locking nut. That seems like a lot compared to my '83 300D Turbo sedan. Is it? Other minor issues are: 1) glow plug light does not go out after x seconds. Does the glow plug control box need to be replaced? 2) I'd like to replace the steering wheel, it is well worn and sun damaged. Anyone have one they're willing to sell? 3) the piece of wood trip on the glove box door is loose. What do I use to glue it back? I'm a Dieselaholic... ;) (as well as an FSJaholic, Linuxaholic, etc... ;) Drove the '83 Jimmy to the tow truck driver's house so he could bring the J10 and the Jimmy down to Centralia together for me... I think that the Mercedes Diesels are so much more refined then the big american iron. The 6.2L Diesel is a good one, but nothing like my '91 2.5L Turbo Diesel. I think my friend is pretty smart to have me put that 6.2L into the '78 J10 Golden Eagle first rather then my '83 J10 stepside... It'll be a great truck, but not the refined smooth luxury FSJ I'm looking for... ...now the hard part will be convincing my wife that I NEED a Diesel FSJ, my Mercedes Diesel and Superdawg... this could be a challenge... at the least I'll have the Benz and Superdawg... ;) (fwiw, this is one of the reasons I don't drink... ;) john Richard Arnold wrote: > Recently I got promotion, which included a Buick LaSabre as a company > car. They've > been pulling cars over in droves. Wow. That's downright illegal in california. That is called a speed trap, and state law specifically outlaws that. That's not to say the CHP isn't creative, though. CHP has these little BMW motorcycles that haul serious ass, plus they have white camaros with LED light bars that are really invisible until you are on top of them. If you are ever in California and see a camaro with a CB antenna, SLOW DOWN :) The volvos they had were downright not fun, but fortunately, they didn't buy a lot of those, and the five they have are almost retired now. I really hated having to watch for white volvo 850 sedans. Supposedly South Carolina uses silver BMW 540s. Ouch. They do like to hide bikes behind a tree (but visible to the other side so they get around the speed trap rules) or on an overpass and radio down to a marked unit on the OTHER side of the freeway. Pretty funny to listen to on the scanner. They also like to use planes to nab speeders. Other tricks involve passing you and using a stop watch on a mile marker, then going a quarter mile down the road (out of view), doing a uturn, catching up to you, waiting until they pass another mile marker, stop the stopwatch, do some comparison based on how long it should have taken, then nail you. Washington has white volvo 850 WAGONS, with the full areo kit chin spoiler and all. I was shocked when I saw them pull someone over in that. Plus lots of full size SUVs, too. The mirror assembly in my driver side sunvisor is trying to come out of the visor. None of the plastic appears to have cracked (yet), and cursory examination of both visors suggests it's just a friction fit holding the whole plastic-framed covered mirror assembly into the visor, but I can't seem to push this one back in enough to make it stay put. I'm also afraid of breaking things if I squeeze too hard in the wrong spot. Is it supposed to be more than just a friction fit? Are there some little tabs that should snap in place? If so, where are they so I know where to push? Thanks, all, Alec Cordova Taylor, Texas 89 300CE, 174K - --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
