OK. We certainly have sufficient plot twists. I see two ways to make money from this: Add gratuitous violence and sell the rights to Quentin Tarentino; Add a conspiracy and sell it to Oliver Stone. Either way, it's bound to turn out better than most of the fodder competing for my 8 bucks these days, it provides more screen time for our beloved diesel Benzes, and it fits right in with our ongoing supplies of popcorn. ;-) Alec > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-diesel-benz-at-digest.net > [mailto:owner-diesel-benz-at-digest.net]On Behalf Of john meister > Sent: Monday, September 06, 2004 2:43 AM > To: WJ-Grand-at-yahoogroups.com; xj; fsj list; 'dbl' > Subject: [db] another twist in the fractured tale of the clearview > monster garage saga... > > > in our last report we were going to take the 6.2L Diesel out of > the '83 Jimmy and put > it into the '78 J10 Golden Eagle... making a real Diesel powered FSJ... > > this would solve the "towing" problem created by the "new" '99 WJ > with no hitch... > (our son is coming home to get the '87 XJ) > > Well, today I went down to Centralia to the "other" Monster > Garage to install > the leather seats into the WJ (they were purchased for superdawg, > but using > them would have required extending his cab...) We were up in Mt. Vernon looking at landscaping materials and heard sirens and noticed traffic backing up on I-5. We were on a frontage road right across the freeway and just south of the scene... so we went up and saw it... couldn't see much... couldn't quite figure out what happened, but listening on the radio found out... and the link below provies details. nice straight flat stretch of I-5... weird that something this drastic could happen there. I guess there is no barrier in the median through there, folks were pulling u-turns in the backup... This place on I-5 is right where the southbound lanes go into 4 lanes and the speed limit jumps from 60 to 70. Sometimes folks don't sort out real well here and you get folks holding things up... My guess is the guy in the vette went around the bottleneck and then cut back over and lost it... maybe more details will come out... for it to fly out of that median they had to be really moving... We watched them working on the folks in the minivan... then saw the chopper come in. The minivan didn't look that bad, but the driver's side of it was damaged. The trooper was off in the ditch with the hood up and the vette a bit further north of it. You can see what's left of the vette in this link: http://komotv.com/stories/32913.htm 2 Killed, 6 Injured In I-5 Crash September 6, 2004 By KOMO Staff SKAGIT COUNTY - Two people were killed and a third was critically injured in a car crash along I-5 near Conway Monday afternoon. The State Patrol says a speeding Corvette going southbound crossed the median, went airborne, and smashed into an Isuzu Trooper and a minivan going northbound. "When (the Corvette) came out of the median, it was pointed nose-down into the pavement and the back end was straight up," said State Patrol spokesman Lance Ramsey. Two people in the Corvette were killed. The minivan carried a family of four -- two parents and two kids -- and the father was being airlifted to Harborview with critical injuries. The three others in the minivan had minor injuries as did the two people inside the Trooper. The crash blocked two of the three northbound lanes in the area for several hours before being cleared around 5 p.m. The traffic backup stretched for 3-4 miles in both directions. State troopers were running speed traps through the area during that time and the Corvette was one that got away from them. ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Sep 2004 09:07:45 -0400 From: Jason R Bassett Subject: [db] OT: Cheap long distance I have been using an IDT GlobalAccess Card for months now^Wlove it. Also like the XJ and the J10... :) She wanted a V8 too, until we took several of each and did a little time trial... :) The difference between the V8 and the 4.0L isn't that significant, roughly 8 to 10% less power... still need to take the 300d to that section of road and see how fast it'll go... :) So far in doing our normal wandering around in the area we're seeing 19 to 20mpg with the 4.0L WJ where with the 4.7L WJ we were only seeing 14 to 16. The XJ with the 4.0L would give us 16 - 17 doing the same thing... so this WJ is really a surprise. :) Of course when I asked my wife which vehicle we'll normally take for running around and she said my benz... at 30+ mpg in town it's the winner for economy. :) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 07 Sep 2004 12:12:31 -0500 From: "Richard F Dillon" Subject: [db] Still having trouble with vacuum on 83 300D Folks, thanks so much for all the tips concerning vacuum leaks in an 83 300D. I spent the better part of yesterday tracing leaks down, and have no results to show for it. I discovered that both hoses to the front passenger door must have leaks in them, as I plugged each line and used the Mityvac on them, and neither hose held vacuum, so they must be cracked somewhere between the junction located in the passenger front floor area to the actuator. I plugged the rubber junction with golf tees, and continued to check. I checked both the connections in both the front driver's side floor area, as well as the front passenger side door area, and plugged the rubber junction with golf tees for every line that wouldn't hold vacuum. The car still runs for ~15 seconds after I shut it off, and the AC still doesn't blow out of the middle vents, but does out of the outside vents and the defroster vents. I tried plugging up the connection for both of the yellow hoses going through the firewall (at the check valve), and nothing I did would help the engine stop immediately. I was wondering, if possibly my vacuum pump could be marginal? Do any vacuum pump diagnostics exist? Is the replacement or repair of the vacuum pump a major hassle? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated, as I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Thanks so much in advance, Richard "Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Here's a snip from a message concerning the vacuum pump from another list that I am on: - ------------------------------------------------------------------- [Diesel engine Vacuum pump suction pressure] 20" Hg, minimum, right at the pump. No other devices in line. IOW, disconnect the pump steel line from the brake power booster (I think it is a 10mm dia tube) and put the gage in there. New pumps will draw 25"-28" Hg. When the valves inside get tired or mucky they will not hold as well. When the pump starts to slip below 20" it is rebuild or replace time. - --------------------------------------------------------------------- Hope that helps.
