I got this crazy idea... put the 300cd on the Jimmy chassis... Diesel, 4x4, and a nice comfy Mercedes... and no worries about lifting it a bit, should easily clear the 6'6" parking garage. :) we'll see... one or two little gotchas so far... wheelbase on the 300cd is about 98", the wb on the Jimmy 106. another gotcha is the radiator setup... that 6.2L requires a rad that was too tall for an FSJ. :) ah, but most of the fun is just thinking about it... :) one of these days I'll create another monster... but until then I'll just keep coming up with ideas. :) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 3 Oct 2004 03:14:59 -0700 (PDT) From: Jerome Kaidor Subject: Re: [db] mt. st. helens... I had a friend who went to help his father plow his fields after the 1980 eruption. Got a bad case of silicosis in his lungs. AFAIK, that's a forever problem once you get it. - Jerry Kaidor ( jerry-at-tr2.com ) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 03 Oct 2004 12:11:13 -0500 From: Jon Filina Subject: Re: [db] another daydream... Try 106.7" I assume you're talking about a W123. > one of these days I'll create another monster... but until > then I'll just keep coming up with ideas. :) That's one of the "givens" around here... I'm on my second popcorn popper. Diesel dreams weren't happenin' today... driving back from Centralia the Jimmy tossed his alternator belt off somewhere unbeknownst to me... so when I stopped for a burger in Fife there was little happiness when I turned the starter key... A guy in a Ford van tried to jump me... close, it turned over... then I called in a wrecker... instead got some guy in a Mazda 626 from the tow company... hmmm... nice guy I thought, didn't realize he was the tow truck guy... rofl... his little mazda gave me a enough power to roll up the windows... that is before he overheated... Called in another wrecker, ah, the sound of another Diesel approacheth... it took about 15 minutes at high idle to get James to light off, then we let it run for another 10 minutes to charge the batteries a wee bit... the sun had set... Oh happy joy joy, another night run to Snohomish with no lights... I thought this was an FSJ phenomenon... I guess we kept the GMC parked too close to all those FSJ's in Centralia, picked up some of their bad habits... Made it home safe and sound, no one mistook the large silver and black object for a lane opening... kind of hard to not hear it at least. ;) Got a friend coming over to swap out the alternator, gave him a bunch of old Sun computer stuff... worked out great... not only did I clean out my garage, but now he's willing to fix the alternator for me. :) Of course I will be answering networking questions for a while... I'm having second and third thoughts about the Benz on GMC idea... (pass some more popcorn... ;) I'm glad I didn't swing over to look at the 300cd on the way home, man that would have really put me off track... anyway, might still work out... wheelbase is about the same 106"... Anyway, the jimmy was nice on the freeway... curtis fixed the seats and the view was great... but there are still a lot of "issues" with the truck... I guess I'll just use it to tow my trailer until SuperDawg is done and then decide what to do with it. :) Or a 300cd shows up with no engine... :) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Oct 2004 11:32:37 +0800 From: "Carballo, Rico A." Subject: [db] diesel engine won't shut off Gents, I know this had been discussed many times before but now it has happened to my '79 240D - the engine won't shut off on turning the ignition key. I shut it down with the stop lever near the injection pump. Where can I start looking? Is this a sign of a huge $$$ repair? Thanks.
