Found this blurb: "Jeep Liberty will be available with a 2.8-liter common rail diesel (CRD) engine for the first time in the United States and Canada. The 2.8-liter CRD is rated at an estimated 160 horsepower (120 kW) at 3800 rpm and with 295 lb.-ft. (400 N.m) at 1800 rpm, providing class-leading torque and towing capability. Diesel engines offer another option for increased torque, towing and range, while improving fuel economy an average of 25 percent and reducing CO2 emissions by an average of 20 percent. The diesel engine will be available on both Sport and Limited models." from: http://www.wforum.com/waf/posts/42284.shtml I was trying to figure out if it's the Mercedes unit, but google seemed to indicate it wasn't... I'm thinking one in white to match my wife's WJ. :) I'd just sell all my other vehicles, computers, house, books, tools... ;) we'll see... any word on the ML series Benz getting a Diesel? I think my desire is pretty straightforward... I just want a nice Diesel... I've got two now, but it would be cool to have them in one vehicle... 4x4 is a must. (Anyone who's seen my driveway KNOWS why this is so. :) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Oct 2004 21:15:23 -0500 From: Jon Filina Subject: Re: [db] assorted chatter... It's Italian! At least that what I read recently. Do ya think I can find where? Nope. The closest I came was a Detroit Diesel powerplant. But....I am positive I read that the engine is built in Italy by a company that has been building diesels for many years. Maybe Tony won't be needed to fix it again... Direct injection of fuel into an open combustion chamber is more efficient than a pre-chamber indirect injection configuration. The system in the 2.8-liter CRD operates at fuel pressures nearly 70 percent above the older distributor pump systems, producing finer atomization, leaner combustion and higher power. At the same time, direct injection provides inherently lower engine-out hydrocarbon exhaust emissions and lower NOx emissions. A high pressure pump driven by the cog belt from the camshaft supplies fuel at up to nearly 24,000 psi. The pump's electronic control system responds to fuel demand and delivers the optimal fuel pressure, injection timing and injection duration." >--> >-->http://jeephorizons.com/news/2005kjspecs.html >--> >-->24,000 psi !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok, by those specs mine is not a high pressure system. :) That is GREAT information, thanx! Any other info on that 2.8L CRD would be interesting and useful. As far as the 320's, not sure if the gas version is a turbo or not. Gas engines are way more complex to setup with turbos, while Diesels love them and don't need a lot to be happy. thanx for the info, john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #1585 **********************************
