Pretty incredible, if you ask me. > I am fine, but my car is probably totalled. They did find the person > responsible for redecorating the highway. As soon as the state police give > me his info, I will be going after his insurance. I'd go after his insurance too. I'm glad you're okay. As for the car, no doubt the insurance company is going to try to total it. Be sure to keep the receipts handy for all the work you've done to it (you're not going to get that money back, but it'll help to show mechanical condition). There's a HUGE range of values for turbodiesel coupes, and you (naturally) want to be on the high end of it. Make sure the car is clean and shows signs of care before the adjuster comes to see it. While it might be repairable by John's Monster Garage, I think the trunk might be fatal. The front is easily fixed, probably the hardest part about fixing the front would be finding a euro headlight assembly and not paying an arm and a leg for it. The back, however... It would really depend on how well the inside of the trunk held up. Sure, you could straighten it back out, but you'll no doubt be using a torch and welder to make it look good again. Then again, this is a moot point, depending on how the rear axle assembly took the hit. From the pictures it looks okay, but who knows without looking underneath? > I figured this was a strange enough story that it might interest some of > you. Not really all that strange. People out here like to overload trucks and drop things on the freeway. I've seen a couch on the highway in the #1 lane (I guess the high speed lane, but on that freeway, they all are ), and it was pretty spooky. Fortunately there wasn't much traffic on the road at the time. > Sadly, another 123 chassis MB bites the dust. :( Well, if it died, it died saving you. This is one of the reasons we drive what we do. Imagine hitting that couch, say, in that white cutlass ciera in the pictures. I don't even want to think about it. Keep us posted... Yet more popcorn I was planning to take a vacation in one of the following countries, but changed my mind when I discovered that they have right-hand drive cars :-). Actually, I would stay away from the few of these places I've heard of. >Bophuthatswana >Ciskei >Lesotho >Mozambique >Sikkim >Somalia >Uganda I think you'll find it a serious challenge to import any vehicle that is not manufactured to US standards. Modifying such a vehicle would likely be a major challenge. When I moved from Vancouver Canada to Vancouver USA, I actually had trouble re-importing US vehicles which I had registered in Canada during the 5 years I was there. At least in WA, the DOL wants to see Customs clearance documents before you can register here- even if the vehicle was manufactured in the US! OTOH, I had no difficulty importing and registering a Canadian built Volvo, since I had cleared it through Customs Greg Fiorentino Vancouver USA gfior-at-dslnorthwest.net '86 300SDL Turbo '84 300D Turbo '79 300TD '85 F-350 6.9 crew cab - --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. That reminds me of my first accident^Wrolling a full-size van completely over......fortunately there was nobody around. Ask if you want the whole story on the. The second was only a low-speed traffic fender-bender. But I know what it is to be inside a vehicle that is literally out of control and smashing around you. Not fun........Even more though, I have grown to love my 123 and seeing that one smashed up is really quite sickening..............get Mr Furniture's email address so the list can send him a thank-you note for trashing a nice car.... PLEASE do try to fix it up.........these cars are so personable.........you will feel like you sentenced a close friend to death if you junk it.......been there done that......trust me............
